Independent performance scores from CHOICE sit behind a membership paywall, so this review separates what the manufacturer publishes from what can be confirmed independently.

The figures below come from Dimplex Australia’s instruction manual and specification sheet for the GDDE25E, plus the public CHOICE page. None of them are independent measurements. Neither Dimplex document states a publication date, so treat them as the current manufacturer figures as of this review rather than dated test results.

The manual states that the appliance label takes precedence over the printed data where values may vary for technical reasons. If a figure on your unit’s label differs from this table, go with the label.
What 25 litres a day actually means
The 25 L/day rating is a standardised headline figure. It describes how much water the unit can extract under one fixed condition: 32°C air at 80% relative humidity. Nothing in the manual promises that output in an ordinary room.

Moisture removal depends heavily on temperature and humidity. A dehumidifier pulls water out of air only as fast as that air can hold it, so a typical Australian living room at 22°C and 60% relative humidity will yield far less than 25 L per day. Use the 25 L figure to compare models that have been rated the same way, not to estimate your daily bucket count.
The manual also notes that a running compressor produces heat and can raise room temperature. In a closed room on a mild day, that heat is part of the trade-off of dehumidifying.
Room size and placement
Dimplex recommends the unit for rooms of 12–30 m². For a larger space, or a space with several rooms joined by open doorways, expect the unit to take longer to bring humidity down. The manual advises closing outside doors and windows, which matters more than room size in practice: a dehumidifier working against an open window is fighting the weather.

Placement checklist from the manual:
- Stand the unit on a level surface. The manual warns that an uneven floor can cause problems with drainage (see below).
- Leave at least 45 cm of clearance on each side so air can move freely.
- Close outside doors and windows while it runs.
- Keep it within the 5–32°C operating range. Below that range, the refrigeration system is not designed to run.
Tank and drainage options
The GDDE25E collects water in a 3.5 L tank. When the tank is full, the unit detects the condition and the compressor stops. That protects the appliance but means you need a plan for emptying it.
Option 1: Empty the tank by hand
This works for small rooms or lighter use. A 3.5 L tank fills faster than many readers expect in a damp room, so check it daily on heavy-use days. Switch the unit off and empty the tank before moving the unit at any time.
Option 2: Continuous drainage with a garden hose
The unit can drain continuously to a floor drain, but the hose is not included, and you must supply one. The manual’s setup steps are:

- Switch the unit off and unplug it.
- Unscrew the rear cap on the back of the unit.
- Attach a garden hose to the drain nozzle. Check the fit before you rely on it, since the manual does not specify a hose diameter.
- Run the hose to a floor drain without kinks or knots. A kink or a sag that holds water will stop the drain and let the tank fill.
- Plug the unit in and confirm water flows out of the hose.
The manual warns that an uneven surface or an incorrect hose setup can cause water to back up into the tank and shut the unit off. The tank must also be seated correctly. If the unit stops with the tank apparently not full, check the hose path and the level of the floor first.

The manual documents the following controls:
- Adjustable humidity setting
- High and low fan speeds
- Three modes: continuous, living room and bedroom
- A timer
- Automatic defrost, which keeps the cooling coil from icing up in cool conditions
- Castors for moving the unit between rooms
The continuous mode runs the unit to hold the set humidity. The living-room and bedroom modes are the manual’s own preset names for the two common use cases. The manual does not publish a decibel reading for each fan speed, so the 53 dB(A) figure should be read as a single manufacturer value.

- Unplug the unit before cleaning.
- Remove the filter and wash it in warm soapy water.
- Let it dry thoroughly before refitting.
- Clean it approximately every two weeks while the unit is in use.
The manual says never to run the unit without the filter, and not to put the filter in a dishwasher. A clean-filter indicator activates after 250 hours of operation, which gives you a second reminder if the two-week habit slips. Hours of use will vary by household, so the two-week interval is the more practical guide.

The Dimplex spec sheet lists a two-year domestic warranty, and CHOICE also lists two years. Keep proof of purchase and read the warranty card or Dimplex’s product support pages for claim conditions, since the sources reviewed here do not describe them in detail.

On refrigerant, the current spec sheet gives R410a. Because an older listing showed R134a, check the unit’s rating label before you rely on this detail for a service call or a comparison with other models.

Prices change and distributor listings can show stock and price that differ from the moment you read this. The CHOICE page lists a price of $389, but that figure may be out of date. Check a current retailer or the Glen Dimplex Australia DigiCart listing for today’s price and stock before buying.
What independent testing does and does not show
CHOICE publishes a dedicated page for the GDDE25E that identifies the product as a refrigeration dehumidifier and lists the manufacturer’s claimed 25 L/day removal rate, the 12–30 m² room range and the 5–32°C operating range. Its expert rating and several measured performance results, including water removal, energy efficiency and ease of use, are members-only on the page.
That means this review cannot quote an independent score for the GDDE25E. Do not treat the unit as CHOICE-recommended, and do not assume its measured results match the manufacturer’s rating.
