On the benchmark results currently listed, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is narrowly ahead of Dimensity 9500s in AnTuTu 11 and Geekbench 6. That is not enough to declare a universal winner: the scores come from aggregated results rather than a matched phone test, and the available sources identify Snapdragon phones but do not establish a Dimensity 9500s handset for a direct comparison.

What the benchmark scores do—and do not—show
In the NanoReview comparison, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 leads by 25,176 points in AnTuTu 11, 108 points in Geekbench 6 single-core, and 187 points in Geekbench 6 multi-core. Those are narrow differences relative to the totals, so they suggest a modest lead in the listed results rather than a clear real-world separation.
The comparison page lists 91 Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 and 85 Dimensity 9500s AnTuTu 11 tests. Its figures include user-submitted results and can change as results are added or the page is updated. Scores also vary with handset cooling, software, memory configuration, test conditions, and benchmark version. A small difference in an aggregate score does not guarantee that one phone will feel faster or hold higher frame rates for longer.
#1 Best Overall
Use these scores as an initial comparison, not a buying verdict. For a useful head-to-head, compare retail phones running the same benchmark version and repeat the same workloads under similar conditions. Sustained gaming, heat, throttling, and battery use require measurements beyond a short benchmark result.
How the two chipsets differ on paper
MediaTek Dimensity 9500s
MediaTek announced the Dimensity 9500s on January 15, 2026. Its published CPU layout is one Arm Cortex-X925 core up to 3.73 GHz with 2 MB of L2 cache, three Cortex-X4 cores with 1 MB of L2 cache each, and four Cortex-A720 cores with 512 KB of L2 cache each. MediaTek also lists 12 MB of L3 cache and 10 MB of system-level cache. The company describes it as an all-big-core design and says it uses a 3 nm process.
The graphics unit is Arm Immortalis-G925. MediaTek says 11-core or 12-core GPU configurations are available, with the exact specification depending on the phone maker. Other listed capabilities include LPDDR5X memory up to 10,667 Mbps, UFS 4 with MCQ, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, and display support up to WQHD+ at 180 Hz. The platform lists video decode up to 8K at 60 frames per second and 10-bit encode up to 8K at 30 frames per second; supported formats vary by function.
These are chipset capabilities, not guarantees about a particular phone’s memory, storage, screen, video modes, or connectivity. See MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500s specifications and its January 15, 2026 announcement.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5
Qualcomm lists a custom Oryon CPU with a maximum frequency of 3.8 GHz, an Adreno GPU, Hexagon NPU features, and the Snapdragon X80 5G modem-RF system. FastConnect 7900 provides Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Qualcomm identifies the process as 3 nm.
Qualcomm’s stated gains—36% improved CPU performance, 11% improved GPU performance, 46% faster NPU performance, and up to 13% overall SoC power savings—are comparisons with the previous generation, not with Dimensity 9500s. They are manufacturer-reported figures, so they should not be read as direct results against MediaTek’s chip. Qualcomm announced the platform on November 26, 2025; its product page lists specifications and the generational comparisons.
Which chipset should you choose?
Based on the published aggregate scores alone, Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 has a small lead. The sources do not establish a matched Dimensity 9500s phone alongside a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone, so they cannot answer which handset is faster, cooler, longer-lasting, or better for games and cameras.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to compare when Dimensity 9500s phones are available
- Sustained performance: Look for repeated CPU and GPU workloads, not only peak scores from a short run.
- Gaming: Compare the same games, graphics settings, frame-rate targets, and play duration; check frame-rate stability and throttling.
- Heat and power: Consider measured temperatures and battery drain under comparable workloads, display settings, and network conditions.
- Phone configuration: Check RAM, storage, cooling hardware, display, and battery capacity. These can differ between phones using the same chipset.
- Camera and video: Compare the sensors, image processing, and recording modes the manufacturer actually enables; platform capability alone does not establish camera quality.
- Ownership details: Confirm software-support commitments, price, regional availability, carrier bands, and the exact handset variant.
Those phone-level factors can outweigh small benchmark gaps, and some platform features depend on the manufacturer’s implementation.
