One naming detail matters: MediaTek’s official product page calls its chip the Dimensity 8500; “Dimensity 8500 Extreme” is the label used in a listing for the Motorola Edge 70 Pro 5G. The available specifications do not establish a separate Extreme silicon variant.
What “Dimensity 8500 Extreme” means
MediaTek’s product page identifies the platform as the Dimensity 8500. A 91mobiles listing for the Motorola Edge 70 Pro 5G uses the name “Dimensity 8500 Extreme.” The reviewed sources do not show a separate official MediaTek specification page for an Extreme SKU, so the listing suffix alone is not evidence of a different architecture, chip bin, or guaranteed performance uplift.

Where the platforms differ
CPU core configuration
The 9400e combines Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720 cores, while all eight listed 8500 CPU cores are Cortex-A725. Their peak listed clock speeds do not, by themselves, show which chip is faster: core design, workload, thermal limits, and the phone’s power settings also matter.
Graphics
MediaTek lists an Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU for the 9400e and a Mali-G720 MC8 for the 8500. The model and core-count difference is a platform specification, not a measured gaming result. It does not establish real-world frame rates or how long either phone can sustain them.

Connectivity
The 9400e lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0; the 8500 lists Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. MediaTek also lists different peak cellular downlink capabilities: up to 7 Gbps for the 9400e and up to 5.17 Gbps for the 8500. These are manufacturer platform claims, not real-world speed guarantees; phone implementation, network availability, and conditions affect what users experience.

Camera, display, memory, and AI support
Both platforms list support for camera sensors up to 320 MP and UFS 4 storage with MCQ. Their stated display and video ceilings differ, as do the memory formats listed. Phone makers choose the actual camera sensors, displays, memory, and software features. NPU model names and listed capabilities alone do not establish which phone will perform better in a specific AI app.

Reported benchmark results
The available figures are results attributed to separate devices or device testing, not a matched processor-only test.

The results do not point to one categorical winner. The 8500-labeled Motorola entry has the higher reported AnTuTu score, while the 9400e device results are higher in both listed Geekbench tests. Benchmark app versions, phone cooling, software, memory configuration, and performance settings can affect scores; the sources do not establish matched devices and test conditions. For a meaningful direct comparison, tests would need the same benchmark versions and closely controlled phones, with sustained performance and efficiency considered alongside peak scores.
Which comparison matters when choosing a phone?
Chip specifications can help identify platform-level differences, but they cannot settle which handset is the better purchase. For a real buying decision, compare the exact regional phone models and their price, cooling, battery, software support, and availability. Those handset-level factors are not established by the platform specifications or benchmark figures above.
