Neither provider is a clear all-purpose winner: DigitalOcean Droplets are self-managed cloud virtual machines, while Arvixe’s help documentation describes shared hosting. Choose DigitalOcean if you want configurable infrastructure and can administer a server; consider Arvixe only if it confirms a suitable shared plan is currently available at an acceptable price. The available evidence does not establish a current, like-for-like Arvixe price or a performance winner.
How DigitalOcean and Arvixe differ
The main difference is the hosting model, not a small variation in plan features. DigitalOcean defines a Droplet as a Linux-based virtual machine running on virtualized hardware. It is infrastructure as a service, so you manage the operating system, applications, and data. DigitalOcean’s official Droplet pricing page also calls its core Droplet offering unmanaged: the customer is responsible for managing the server.

Arvixe’s available help documentation describes shared hosting, including Linux and Windows plan distinctions. In shared hosting, a provider serves multiple customers’ sites from shared server infrastructure. The reviewed documentation does not confirm which Arvixe plans can currently be purchased.

These models place different demands on the site owner. A Droplet offers more control, but setup and ongoing server administration are part of the responsibility. Shared hosting is a different fit for customers seeking a hosting plan rather than a cloud VM to administer; verify the current plan’s features and support directly with Arvixe.

What the published prices and figures establish
DigitalOcean’s 2026 pricing page lists bundled Droplets starting at $4 per month. That is a starting price for a VM, not necessarily the total cost of a configured website. The final amount depends on the plan and any additional services you use. DigitalOcean says Droplets are billed per second with a 60-second minimum, and bundled plans have a monthly cap. See the published Droplet pricing for current options.
The available Arvixe help page does not establish a current comparable plan price, renewal cost, or present availability. Because the products are different and a current Arvixe checkout price is not established here, a fair total-cost comparison cannot be made. Before choosing, confirm the current price, renewal terms, included resources, and any charges for services you need.
Arvixe’s help content gives estimated capacity figures for two shared-hosting classes: Personal Class is listed at 100,000 monthly visitors and 100–200 concurrent users; Business Class at 200,000 monthly visitors and 200–500 concurrent users. Arvixe does not state a year for these figures in the cited page, and they have not been independently validated. Treat them as help-page claims, not current guarantees or benchmark results. DigitalOcean Droplets make sense if you want configurable cloud infrastructure, understand server administration, and are comfortable choosing and maintaining the resources your site needs. The company’s Droplets product page describes its virtual-machine offering; its pricing page is the place to check current configurations and costs.
Rank #3
- Choose a Droplet if you want control over the server environment and can handle its administration.
- Budget for the configuration and additional services your site actually requires, rather than treating the starting price as a complete website cost.
- Do not choose it on the assumption that the VM is managed for you: DigitalOcean says its core Droplet offering is unmanaged.
When does Arvixe make sense?
Consider Arvixe if shared hosting is the kind of service you want and the company confirms that an appropriate plan is currently available. Its help page, Hosting Plan vs. Domain vs. Website, explains the relationship between hosting, a domain, and a website; it does not settle current pricing or plan availability.
Before ordering, ask Arvixe to confirm the operating-system option you need, current plan and renewal prices, resource limits, support scope, and whether the plan is available for new customers. The available documentation is not enough to recommend a particular Arvixe plan.

What if you want managed hosting?
DigitalOcean’s hosting page presents Cloudways as a managed-hosting route and describes 24/7 support. Cloudways is not the same service as administering an unmanaged Droplet yourself. If reducing server-administration work is your priority, review the DigitalOcean hosting options and confirm which service, support scope, and costs apply before deciding.

Is either host faster or more reliable?
The cited material does not establish a controlled, independent comparison of DigitalOcean and Arvixe under the same workload and geography. It therefore cannot support a claim that one is faster or more reliable. DigitalOcean’s hosting page presents a 99.99% uptime SLA for Droplets; that is the company’s service-level statement, not an independent measurement or a comparison with Arvixe.
Best Value
To compare performance for your own use, look for independent tests that state the workload, test locations, period, and measurement method. A result from one setup or region would not automatically predict how your own site performs.
Quick Recap
How to make the decision
- Decide how much server administration you want. If you want a VM you control and manage, a Droplet fits that model. If you want shared hosting, confirm that Arvixe has a suitable plan available. If you want managed hosting, assess the separate Cloudways option rather than treating it as an unmanaged Droplet.
- Compare the real recurring cost. For DigitalOcean, price the Droplet configuration and any additional services you need. For Arvixe, obtain current plan and renewal prices directly; the available help documentation does not provide a comparable current price.
- Check requirements and support. Verify the operating-system choice, included resources, limits, and support scope for the specific service you would buy.
- Use comparable performance evidence. Do not infer a speed or uptime winner from vendor claims or Arvixe’s unvalidated capacity estimates.
