To build a reliable strategy in Dicevaders, focus on the board columns your dice can actually score: read your commander’s perk, place useful units and artifacts in reachable columns, and spend Budge and Chrono only when they enable a valuable score or purchase. Then build repeatable Strength, Dice Power or Mult and adapt to the next Pilot’s rules. These tips reflect launch-era guidance available as of October 4, 2026; gameplay details may change with patches.
How scoring works in Dicevaders
The board has six numbered columns. A Base Die showing 2 targets column 2; its face selects a column, it does not directly multiply damage. Units in other columns do not automatically contribute to that score.

Dice Power controls how much of a unit’s Strength contributes when its column scores. Ordinary Base Dice in the same column add Dice Power: for example, a 10-Strength unit scored at 2 Dice Power contributes 20 attack. Mult multiplies that turn’s attack, then resets at turn end. Track Total Attack against the encounter’s Target Defense rather than assuming a planet ends with one launch.

Build around your commander and reachable columns
Start with the perk, not a shopping wish list
Read the commander’s starting perk before spending heavily. For example, the October 1, 2026 beginner guide describes Blob Girl starting each turn with three Mini-Dice and granting artifact XP in a column after a Mini-Die scores there. This makes Mini-Dice both extra scoring opportunities and a route to artifact growth. Broodmother, Spiky Gel and Acid Town are cited as possible pieces in a Mini-Dice synergy, not as a guaranteed shop sequence. The guide’s mechanics are guide-reported, not independently playtested here.
The developer’s Captain spotlight offers a different example: The Mothership gives +1 Budge at turn start and funnels +10 XP to an artifact in a column when a pair scores there. The spotlight names Monocle, which lets isolated Base Dice count as pairs, and Rocketship, which grants Strength to a random unit when Budge is used. Treat these as effects with specific triggers: a matching keyword alone does not guarantee that an item will help your board. See the developer’s Captain spotlight.
Place pieces where scoring can reach them
Use the dice results and available one-step corrections to identify practical columns, then build around the useful units and artifacts already there. Group units under artifacts that require their own column to score. When an artifact needs a pair or triple, an interior column can be easier to target because Budge can shift a result from either side. A triple unlocks a locked artifact slot only when it scores in that same column.

Do not assume neighboring pieces activate together. Look for an explicit effect that scores units or columns elsewhere; otherwise, a unit outside the selected column does not join its attack.
Use Budge and Chrono deliberately
Budge shifts a die result up or down by one. After being budged, that die is cracked and cannot be budged again until rerolled. Save a correction for a payoff: completing a valuable pair or triple, unlocking a slot, or activating an artifact. Moving a die into an empty column without a useful trigger is usually a poor trade.
Chrono is shared between rerolling Base Dice and refreshing the shop. Freeze dice you want to keep before rerolling others. Avoid spending the last Chrono on a shop refresh when a coming fight may require a reroll to make Budge available again. The official Steam listing describes Chrono as serving both rerolls and shop restocks, and Budge as a way to steer dice toward a combo. Check the official Dicevaders listing.

Make each purchase improve the build
Money left when leaving a shop becomes Mini-Dice instead of carrying forward, according to the current beginner guide. Spend when an offer addresses a real need for the next turn or strengthens the build’s scaling engine.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Build Tile: consider it when the army has no room for a valuable unit.
- Artifact XP: prioritize it when the next level improves an effect your board can trigger.
- Units and dice control: choose pieces that fit reachable columns or solve a clear scoring problem.
- Shop refresh: use Chrono when you can afford a useful likely offer; locking an offer can preserve one you cannot buy yet.
A guide-reported Mini-Dice chain illustrates why placement and triggers matter: Broodmother spends Charge to create Mini-Dice based on Dice Power; Spiky Gel converts received Mini-Dice to Strength; Acid Town uses Mini-Dice scoring to activate units in other columns. Charge, random targeting, perk variants and board placement affect how dependable this line is, so treat it as one possible build rather than a universal recipe.
Decide whether to skip a defeated planet
The Skip offer improves shop rarity, but skipping gives up remaining turns that could provide purchases, turn-start effects or unit growth. Compare the likely value of stronger shop offers with what your build can still gain by staying. Leave early when the rarity improvement is useful and you can afford to capitalize on it; stay when you still need purchases or growth. Check the defeated marker and the Skip offer rather than assuming that matching attack and defense numbers ends the planet.

Prepare for each Pilot’s rules
Inspect the upcoming Pilot before committing resources. The current regular-invasion walkthrough describes these mechanics:
- Noel: Hyperfreeze blocks rerolls, making Budge a useful one-step correction.
- Roxy: Base Dice start cracked, so Chrono may be needed to reroll before Budge is available.
- Kaia: scoring the marked column with Base Dice increases defense.
- Iris: spawns a Puppet at turn start when none is present.
These details are version-sensitive and should be checked against the live game after patches. The cited walkthrough covers a regular invasion, not the True Ending or extended Endless play; it does not establish a universal route for every difficulty or challenge mode.

- High Mult, low attack: improve Strength or Dice Power on units that actually score.
- Strong units activate too rarely: add ways to score them more often, such as Mini-Dice, Repeat, or an effect that scores from another column.
- A small immediate shortfall: a shield can bridge it, but it is temporary; when the encounter is already safe, favor lasting growth or the resource needed for the next correction.

A quick way to compare build choices
When choosing between pieces or effects, check whether their trigger is reliable in columns you can reach, what they scale (Strength, Dice Power, Mult, Mini-Dice or scoring frequency), and what they cost in current resources and future Budge or Chrono. Then check whether they fit the commander’s perk and whether the next Pilot disrupts or penalizes that strategy. For a skip decision, weigh rarity improvement and affordability against the value of remaining turns.
