A community project called D2R VR brings Diablo II: Resurrected into PC VR with several camera views, including a first-person preview. It targets the 2021 remaster, not the original 2000 Diablo II. The project’s documentation limits it to offline single-player play, and its first-person mode is explicitly unfinished.
What D2R VR is and who made it
D2R VR is a community mod published on GitHub under the account natpoh. It is not an official Blizzard release. The project’s README states that it is not made, endorsed or supported by Blizzard, so any questions about the game’s stability or future support should go to the mod’s project page, not to Blizzard.

The mod depends on the 3D assets in Diablo II: Resurrected. That is why the original game is not the target. Notebookcheck, reporting on October 8, 2026, also describes the remaster as the required base for the mod.
The four views
The README describes four ways to look at the game. They differ in camera position and in how much your body and controllers are involved.
#1 Best Overall
- CARDBOARD MONKENAUT — Get our best Gorilla Tag bundle yet with this Amazon exclusive deal. Purchase Meta Quest 3S to get exclusive items, including the Gorilla Space Program Suit and Helmet, plus 2,000 SHINY ROCKS.
- NO WIRES, MORE FUN — Break free from cords. Game, play and explore immersive worlds — untethered and without limits.
- 2X GRAPHICAL PROCESSING POWER — Enjoy lightning-fast load times and next-gen graphics for smooth gaming powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.
- EXPERIENCE VIRTUAL REALITY — Take gaming to a new level and blend virtual objects with your physical space to experience two worlds at once in your VR headset.
- 2+ HOURS OF BATTERY LIFE — Charge less, play longer and stay in the action with an improved battery that keeps up. *Based on the graphic performance of the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 platform vs the Meta Quest 2 platform.
| View | What it does | Maturity noted by the project |
|---|---|---|
| Stereo isometric | Keeps the original camera angle and renders a distinct perspective for each eye. | Not stated |
| Third person | Places a free camera behind the character and follows your head direction. | Not stated |
| Diorama | Places the game world on the floor so you can look down at it and move around it at room scale. | Not stated |
| First person | Attaches the character’s arms and weapons to your VR controllers. | Labeled a preview; weapon alignment may be off |
Stereo isometric is the closest to playing the original game in a headset. Third person and diorama change the feel more than the rules. First person offers the strongest sense of embodiment, but it is the view with the clearest caveat.
The first-person preview
First person is the feature that makes the headline work, and it is also the one the project is most careful about. The README introduces the mode with this warning:

- 2X GRAPHICAL PROCESSING POWER — Enjoy lightning-fast load times and next-gen graphics for smooth gaming powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 processor.
- EXPERIENCE VIRTUAL REALITY — Blend virtual objects with your physical space and experience two worlds at once in your VR headset.
“F4 is an early look, not a finished way to play the game: the weapons are not calibrated yet, so how a weapon sits in the hands and where it aims may be off for many of them.”
That is the project’s own description of its state. In practice, expect some weapons to look or aim wrong in your hands until calibration improves. VR.org, reporting on October 6, 2026, covered the four views and the first-person caveats in the same terms.

- 33% MORE MEMORY — Elevate your play with 8GB of RAM. Upgraded memory delivers a next-level experience fueled by sharper graphics and more responsive performance.
Requirements and documented setup
The project’s README lists one tested combination of game build and loader. Other builds may need their memory addresses checked, according to the README, so do not assume a newer patch will work.
| Component | Documented value |
|---|---|
| Diablo II: Resurrected build | 3.3.93787 |
| Loader | D2RLoader 1.3.1 |
| Post-processing | ReShade with add-on support; Generic Depth enabled |
| Headset input tools | BodyWalk with FlatVR, plus the D2R Bridge plugin |
Because the project is actively changing, check the live README on the project’s GitHub page before you install anything. Version numbers in articles, including this one, can go stale within weeks.

Display settings the project asks for
The README asks you to change these settings. They are project-specific requirements for D2R VR, not general advice for Diablo II: Resurrected.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Turn off VSync.
- Turn off DLSS.
- Turn off TAA.
- Cap the frame rate at 180 frames per second, which is 90 per eye.
The reason given is that the mod alternates rendering between the two eyes, and temporal frame construction can interfere with stereo output. That explains why the usual upscaling and anti-aliasing options are switched off.
Headset and monitor use
The project supports a VR headset for the full headset experience, and it can also run flat on a monitor. The sources reviewed do not confirm compatibility with any specific headset model. Treat the headset as a broad requirement: you need a PC VR headset, and you need to confirm that your headset and runtime work with the BodyWalk and FlatVR chain the README names.
FlatVR’s vendor page lists Windows 10 and Windows 11 (64-bit) and names SteamVR, Virtual Desktop or an OpenXR runtime as options. That is FlatVR’s own information about its app. It does not prove that every runtime or headset works with D2R VR.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Offline single-player only
The project’s README is direct about this limit: “Offline single-player only. Injecting code into the game online can get the account banned.” Do not use D2R VR in online play, and do not assume that the mod is safe in any online mode.

Cost and what you would need to buy
- The mod: described in the README as free and MIT-licensed.
- BodyWalk: the D2R VR installer includes free BodyWalk Lite if you do not already have BodyWalk, according to the README.
- FlatVR: FlatVR’s official page says the app is free and describes a paid Pro license for unlimited AI 3D depth. The vendor page does not establish that a paid tier is required for D2R VR, which uses its own stereo rendering according to the README.
- Your hardware: the game and the mod are software, but the headset experience needs a PC VR headset.
Whether the free BodyWalk Lite and FlatVR tiers cover every headset feature D2R VR uses is not settled by the sources available. Until the project or vendor confirms it, do not buy a paid tier on the assumption that you need it.
What is still unconfirmed
- Whether every class, skill and area works reliably in VR. The reporting available does not establish this.
- Whether anyone has completed the full game in VR using the mod. iTechGuides, reporting on October 7, 2026, notes the same gap in its verification of setup and full playthroughs.
- Whether the first-person view is ready for regular play. The project labels it a preview.
The creator’s own announcement on Reddit describes the features, including first person, but it is the creator’s description rather than independent testing. Reader questions in that thread, such as whether you can play the whole game and how to start, are useful to read, but they are not confirmation that the answers are yes.
Quick Recap
Practical next steps
- Confirm that you own Diablo II: Resurrected and that your installed build matches 3.3.93787, or be ready to check the README for addresses if it does not.
- Read the live D2R VR README on GitHub and follow its install order, using D2RLoader 1.3.1 as documented.
- Set up ReShade with add-on support and enable Generic Depth, then apply the VSync, DLSS, TAA and 180 fps cap settings.
- Start with stereo isometric or third person before trying first person, and expect weapons to need adjustment.
- Play offline only.
