You can deploy from Cursor or Windsurf without entering a deployment token when the remote MCP server makes the specific publishing tools available without authentication. That does not make every MCP server anonymous, or remove the need for an editor account. In the example covered here, the prompt is: “Build the site and publish the dist folder with DropTheHassle. Give me the live link and the claim link.” The cited community article says this can return a public site URL and a separate claim link; its service-specific claims have not been independently confirmed by a product manual.
What “no account, no token” means
MCP is the connection between an editor such as Cursor or Windsurf and tools exposed by a server. An editor’s ability to connect to a remote MCP server does not determine whether that server requires credentials. Authentication is set by the service and can vary by operation: one tool may be public while another requires a token. DigitalOcean, for example, documents a public documentation MCP server alongside other remote MCP services that require authentication: DigitalOcean’s MCP documentation.

So, “no token” here means only that the publishing operation described is claimed to work without a deployment-service token. It does not mean all remote MCP endpoints accept anonymous requests or that you can use Cursor or Windsurf without an editor account.
Configure the remote MCP endpoint
Cursor
Cursor’s current MCP documentation describes remote connections over SSE and Streamable HTTP. Add the server’s endpoint URL in an mcp.json file. For a project, use .cursor/mcp.json; for a user-level configuration, use ~/.cursor/mcp.json. Cursor also supports headers for remote-server configuration and OAuth when a server requires authentication. It asks you to approve MCP tool use by default. Windsurf
A Connecteam developer guide shows a remote MCP endpoint configured with a url field in ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json. Its example demonstrates that URL-based setup pattern, not universal support for every remote transport or authentication method in every Windsurf build. Check the instructions for your Windsurf version and the server you intend to use: Connecteam’s MCP setup guide.
Use the endpoint and any authentication fields supplied by the server operator. Do not remove credentials from a configuration just because another MCP server permits anonymous access.

Publish a static site and retrieve both links
- Build the site. In your project, produce the static output folder named
dist. The prompt assumes that folder already exists or that the agent can build it. - Connect the remote server. Configure the endpoint in the editor’s MCP settings using the format appropriate to Cursor or Windsurf. If the server marks publishing as an unauthenticated tool, no deployment token should be needed for that operation.

The claim link is a separate link associated with claiming the deployment; do not assume it is the public site URL or that it grants any particular ownership rights without checking the service’s instructions.
The DEV Community article matching this workflow says DropTheHassle can publish a static site to a free name.dropthehassle.app link, check domain availability and price, and report connection status without a token. It also says that listing sites, renaming a free link, pointing a domain, linking a backend, and obtaining a checkout link require an account token. These are claims in that article, not independently verified service documentation: DEV Community article.
Know what the workflow does—and does not—cover
The described no-token path is for publishing a static build and receiving links. It should not be treated as a general way to administer deployments or connect application services. In particular, the cited article places site management, custom-domain actions, backend linking, and checkout-link creation behind an account token. If you need those actions, expect a different authentication requirement and confirm it with the service.

When to stop and troubleshoot
- The editor cannot connect: verify the exact endpoint URL, configuration file location, and syntax for your editor version. A URL field in one vendor’s example does not establish support for every server transport.
- The server asks for credentials: the endpoint or requested operation may require authentication. Editor support for remote MCP does not bypass the server’s access policy.
- Publishing fails because
distis missing: run the project’s build process first, then confirm the output directory name and contents match what the publishing tool expects. - You need a domain or backend feature: those management actions are not part of the reported anonymous publishing path; the cited article says they require an account token.
