What to expect—and what is still uncertain
Deloitte says entry-level Consultative Offerings candidates may encounter a case or scenario interview that tests problem-solving, analytical ability, and strategic and logical thinking. Its cases are fictional examples of client project types, rather than a promise of a particular case for this role. Deloitte’s general guidance is useful preparation, but it does not confirm the format for every GPS Cyber Summer Scholar interview. One candidate invited to interview for Summer 2027 reported on October 2, 2026, that the first round included a 30-minute profile interview and a 30-minute case interview, followed, if advanced, by a 30-minute behavioral interview. That is one person’s account—not a confirmed or universal schedule. The post does not establish how technical the profile questions were, whether the case was cyber-focused, or whether the case was interviewer-led or candidate-led. How to handle the case discussion
Deloitte’s recommended sequence is to understand the issue, identify assumptions, summarize issues and findings, state a recommendation, and outline next steps and expected impact. Treat the interview as a collaborative business discussion: show how you reason, not just the answer you reach.
#1 Best Overall
- Clarify the objective. Restate the problem in your own words. Ask only questions that would materially change your analysis, such as what outcome matters or what constraints apply.
- Make assumptions explicit. If information is missing, state a reasonable working assumption and proceed. Do not disguise uncertainty as a fact.
- Organize your approach. Offer a simple framework before diving into details. Share an initial hypothesis if useful, and take a moment to arrange your thoughts.
- Work through the evidence aloud. Take notes, explain why each factor matters, and connect findings into a clear story. Adjust your approach if new information changes the picture.
- Recommend an action. State what you would do and why, including important trade-offs or risks.
- Close with next steps and measures. Explain what you would investigate or implement next and how you would judge whether it worked.
Deloitte advises candidates to understand the objective, develop and explain a framework and initial hypothesis, explain assumptions, and connect their analysis clearly. It also provides an official case-interview tool for entry-level Consultative Offerings candidates; use that as your first practice resource. Deloitte’s guidance quotes campus recruiting specialist Sophia Fanucchi: “The interview is not about getting the right answer, it’s about how well you respond under pressure. It’s explaining your thinking, explaining your approach, and being articulate.”
Prepare examples that fit the Cyber Strategy role
The role description frames the work as supporting client service teams, public-sector transformation, security-posture recommendations, and cyber-risk reduction. It names analytical and technical skills, research, independent and team work, written and verbal communication, attention to detail, relationship building, prioritization, and meeting deadlines. The listing is a third-party repost of Deloitte’s description; its recruiting end date was September 23, 2026, so treat it as role context rather than a live application notice. Choose examples from coursework, projects, internships, volunteering, or team activities. For each, be ready to explain the situation, your specific contribution, the analysis or decision you made, the outcome, what you learned, and what you would change. Useful themes include:
- Investigating a difficult or ambiguous problem.
- Explaining technical material to a nontechnical audience.
- Working through disagreement or coordinating with a team.
- Managing competing priorities or a deadline.
- Noticing an important detail and acting on it.
These are preparation themes drawn from the skills in the role description, not confirmed interview questions. Keep your account concrete and truthful; distinguish your own work from the team’s result.

How to approach a cyber-flavored scenario
A cyber case is possible, but the available sources do not establish that your case will be cybersecurity-specific. If the scenario is cyber-related, start with the mission and business need rather than jumping immediately to a tool or technical fix.
- Clarify what needs protection and what harm or disruption matters.
- Separate what is known from what still needs to be established.
- Identify plausible risks and relevant constraints, such as operational needs or available information.
- Compare response options and explain their trade-offs.
- Recommend sensible next steps, including what to verify and how to assess whether the response reduced risk.
Deloitte’s GPS practice spans civil government, defense, security and justice, federal health, and state, local and higher education. Its GPS careers page specifically mentions cybersecurity defense and preparation in the state, local and higher-education sector. That context can help you connect your interest to public-sector missions, but it does not predict the case topic. Deloitte Government & Public Services careers

A focused practice plan
- Use Deloitte’s free official case-interview tool and practice explaining your reasoning aloud.
- Run through a case by clarifying the goal, stating assumptions, structuring the analysis, and giving a recommendation with next steps.
- Prepare several role-relevant examples and rehearse concise explanations of your individual contribution.
- Review your invitation and ask your recruiter about the schedule or format if it is unclear; do not assume another candidate’s account applies to you.
Deloitte’s interview guidance also quotes senior experienced hire recruiting specialist Keyana Dunn: “Being able to show your work and explain your thought process during your interview can help set you apart.”
