The 2026 Dell XPS 13 is an easy laptop to recommend for everyday productivity, study and browsing—if you can live with its biggest practical drawback: just two USB-C ports, one of which is used for charging. That leaves one port for wired accessories while the laptop is plugged in. If you regularly connect more than one peripheral or an external display, plan on using a hub or dock.
What is the XPS 13’s main problem?
The current Dell XPS 13, model DX13260, has two USB-C ports. Dell specifies that its power adapter connects through one of them, so charging uses a port you might otherwise need for an accessory. Dell also says a docking station can connect multiple devices, including external monitors, but that does not change the laptop’s built-in port count. Dell’s DX13260 specifications describe the power connection as “DC-IN through one of the two USB-C ports.”

Check which processor configuration you are buying
The ports’ capabilities depend on the processor configuration. Dell lists two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports on systems with an Intel Core processor, and two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports on systems with an Intel Core Ultra processor. Do not assume every XPS 13 has Thunderbolt 4: confirm the processor and port specification for the exact configuration and region you plan to buy.
What can you do about the limited ports?
A USB-C multiport hub is the compact option for occasional use; a docking station is more suitable for a fixed desk with several peripherals. Choose based on the connections you actually need, such as USB-A, Ethernet or a display output. Dell’s accessory guide describes hubs and adapters with different combinations of ports, while its manual explains connecting multiple devices through a Dell docking station.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Those sources establish the accessory categories, not compatibility of any particular hub or dock with every DX13260 configuration. Before buying, check that the accessory supports your laptop’s port standard, the display output and resolution you need, and enough USB-C power delivery to charge the laptop while other devices are connected.
Who is the XPS 13 a good fit for?
The 2026 model pairs a 13.4-inch, 2560 × 1600 touchscreen with a 2.2-pound chassis and a 52 Wh battery, according to Tom’s Hardware’s 2026 review. That combination suits people who value a light laptop for daily work, study, browsing and travel, and who use few wired accessories at once. Review coverage describes its display as IPS-only, with no OLED option.

Battery results are promising but depend on the test. Tom’s Hardware measured more than 14 hours for both tested RAM configurations in its mixed-use test at 150 nits over Wi-Fi. TechRadar reported more than 16 hours in a separate video-playback test. These are different test methods, not directly comparable guarantees of runtime in everyday use. Tom’s Hardware’s review and TechRadar’s review describe their respective results.
When should you choose something else?
- You often connect multiple wired devices. The built-in port limit will mean unplugging accessories or adding a hub or dock.
- You need a headphone jack or OLED screen. Review coverage identifies the lack of a headphone jack and an IPS-only display lineup as compromises.
- Your work is demanding. The reviewed 8GB memory configuration is a weaker choice for heavier multitasking or demanding applications. Integrated graphics also make the laptop a poor fit for modern gaming; its strengths are light productivity and browsing.
- You depend on a particular app or peripheral. Compare the alternatives against your actual requirements. RTINGS notes that the Microsoft Surface Laptop has an additional USB-A port and may last longer on battery, but its Snapdragon platform can cause compatibility issues with some applications and peripherals. RTINGS also names the MacBook Neo as a similarly priced macOS alternative. RTINGS’ XPS 13 review discusses those trade-offs.
What do the reviewed configurations cost?
Tom’s Hardware listed the configurations it reviewed at $699 for 8GB of RAM and $899 for 16GB in 2026. These are review-time prices, not a promise of current pricing or availability; check Dell’s current listings for your region. If you expect to multitask heavily or run demanding applications, assess the memory configuration before choosing a price point.
