CVE-2026-86360 is reported to affect Dell System Update (DSU) versions earlier than 2.3.0.0. A secondary summary says successful exploitation could let a remote unauthenticated attacker execute code with root privileges. The reported fix threshold is DSU 2.3.0.0, but Dell’s original advisory was not available for verification in the sources reviewed here, so confirm the current vendor guidance before changing systems.

What CVE-2026-86360 is reported to do

Feedly characterizes CVE-2026-86360 as an access-control and path-traversal issue that could provide a remote, unauthenticated route to arbitrary code execution with root privileges. Its page also reproduces a Dell-attributed description calling it an “Improper Access Control vulnerability.” That wording is relayed by a secondary source, not verified against Dell’s original advisory. Which Dell System Update versions are reported affected?

The version threshold surfaced in Feedly’s summary is versions prior to 2.3.0.0; 2.3.0.0 is the reported fix threshold. The available information does not identify affected operating-system versions or configurations, or state what network exposure is required. Check the installed DSU version and compare it with Dell’s current advisory before deciding whether a system is affected.

How serious is the vulnerability?

NotCVE lists CVE-2026-86360 at 9.6 and says Dell PSIRT advisory DSA-2026-324, published October 1, 2026, covers five Dell System Update vulnerabilities. Treat 9.6 as an aggregator-reported score, not a confirmed Dell CVSS rating: Feedly labels its severity estimate as such and shows its surfaced CVSS v3.1 value as unknown. What should administrators do?

  1. Check the installed DSU version. Use the system’s installed-application or package-management tools appropriate to its operating system; the available summaries do not provide a single platform-independent path.
  2. Open Dell’s live security advisory. Look up DSA-2026-324 on Dell’s support site and confirm the affected versions, exposure conditions, and supported update procedure. Dell’s original advisory could not be verified from the sources available for this article.
  3. Apply Dell’s recommended update if the system is affected. The secondary summary reports 2.3.0.0 as the threshold, but use Dell’s current instructions for the correct package and any required follow-up.
  4. Use additional response steps only if Dell or your security team directs them. The available sources do not establish whether exploitation is occurring, provide indicators of compromise, or say whether updating alone is sufficient after a suspected compromise.

What remains unconfirmed

The source material does not establish exploitation in the wild, indicators of compromise, precise network prerequisites, affected platform configurations, or an official recovery workflow. It also does not confirm the advisory details directly with Dell. Those uncertainties make the vendor’s live advisory the appropriate authority for exposure assessment and remediation.
