In CogniPrep’s reported Settings flow, “delete all my data” is scoped: it removes several account records but leaves assessment-centre exercise attempts until the account itself is deleted. The company’s privacy policy names that exception, explains that the attempts support per-exercise usage limits, and says they are removed when the account is deleted.
What the Settings deletion action removes—and what it leaves
Daniel Pertu’s account of CogniPrep’s deletion control says the Settings action deletes game sessions, interviews, onboarding profiles, and the record that a review prompt was shown. It does not delete assessment-centre exercise attempts. The author reports that the confirmation dialog lists the categories the action will remove, so the exception is disclosed in the flow rather than implied by the button label alone. This is the author’s description, not an independently audited account of production behavior. Read the case study by Daniel Pertu.

Why exercise attempts are retained
The stated reason is usage metering: exercise-attempt rows are used to enforce per-exercise limits on AI scoring reviews. CogniPrep’s Privacy Policy, version 1.7.0, displayed as last updated 12 September 2026, says written answers and AI feedback are retained until account deletion for that purpose, then removed immediately when the account is deleted. CogniPrep Privacy Policy.
The policy wording reproduced in Pertu’s article is: “Assessment centre exercise attempts (including your written answers and any AI feedback): retained until you delete your account, so we can enforce per-exercise usage limits; removed immediately when you delete your account”. In practical terms, the Settings action is not the same operation as closing the account: the retained category has a separate stated removal point.

How the deletion flow is implemented, according to the author
Pertu describes four delete statements for the records removed by the Settings action, issued through Promise.all inside a transaction. The code comment quoted in the article says: “This is pipelining, not parallelism: the transaction holds a single reserved connection and Postgres still runs the four statements in order, so what it buys is one network round trip instead of four, with no concurrency to reason about.” That is an explanation of this particular implementation, not a universal rule for every transaction or use of Promise.all; the article does not report a measured latency result.
Why remove the review-prompt marker too?
The deletion action also removes the record that a review prompt was shown. Pertu notes that this could allow the prompt to appear again, but argues that a deletion endpoint should not preserve a user record merely to suppress a future prompt. In this design, prompt suppression belongs in the logic deciding whether to show the prompt, rather than in a control whose stated purpose is deleting data.

What to check when a control says “delete everything”
The useful question is not only whether a button says “delete all my data,” but exactly which records the action covers and what happens to any exceptions. For a product’s deletion flow, check these points:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Immediate scope: Does the confirmation dialog name the data categories this action will delete?
- Exceptions: Does it name any categories that remain, rather than leaving users to infer that “all” means something narrower?
- Reason and timing: Does the privacy policy explain why an exception is retained and state when it is removed?
- Separate deletion paths: Is account deletion required to remove records that the Settings action leaves behind?
- Operational convenience: Is a record being kept to support a product feature that could instead be handled in that feature’s own logic?
For CogniPrep, the policy supplies the reason and account-deletion timing for exercise attempts, while the case-study author says the confirmation dialog describes what the Settings action deletes. The available descriptions do not independently establish database state, deletion logs, backups, or downstream copies.
