Deflector is an app-mediated way to launch a chosen Shortcut from a notification-related workflow on iOS 27 or later. Apple’s Shortcuts app can trigger a personal automation when a notification arrives from a selected app, while MacStories describes Deflector as surfacing a shortcut through the Dynamic Island or a Lock Screen Live Activity. It is not the same as adding a new action button to any app’s notification.
What Deflector does
Deflector is a utility that connects Shortcuts with a launcher surface. The App Store listing says it requires iOS 27.0 or later and that users need to set up an automation in Shortcuts. MacStories describes the app, by indie developer Cizzuk Shihu, as a free utility that can run a shortcut from the user’s Shortcuts library through the Dynamic Island or a Lock Screen Live Activity. The available sources describe the intended workflow, but do not establish every configuration detail or how it behaves in every device state.

In practical terms, Deflector is relevant if you want a notification-related event to lead into a selected Shortcut and want a dedicated way to reach that shortcut. It does not mean that every notification automatically becomes a shortcut launcher.
How Shortcuts notification triggers work
Apple’s Shortcuts event-trigger guide documents an App trigger for a notification received from an app you choose. The guide lists three possible filters: notification Message, Subtitle, and Title. A personal automation can use a matching notification as its trigger and then run a workflow assembled from Shortcuts actions.

- App: choose the app whose notification can trigger the automation.
- Message, Subtitle, or Title: use the available filters to narrow which notifications match.
- Automation workflow: choose the actions that Shortcuts should perform after the trigger.
Those filters do not guarantee that every app supplies all three fields or that its notification text is consistent. Apple’s general Shortcuts guide explains that automations can be edited to run without asking; that is a Shortcuts setting, not evidence of a particular Deflector setup or notification behavior.
Notification trigger versus notification button
A Shortcuts notification automation and an actionable notification button are different mechanisms. The automation treats a received notification as an event that can start a personal workflow. By contrast, Apple says the app that owns a notification declares its available categories and actions, then handles the action selected by the user through its notification-center delegate.

That distinction matters: the documented Shortcuts trigger does not establish that Deflector adds a native button to arbitrary third-party notifications. Deflector is described as a launcher that works with Shortcuts and its own Dynamic Island or Lock Screen Live Activity surface.

How to think about setup
Apple’s documentation establishes the general Shortcuts pieces, and Deflector’s listing says an automation is required. The available source descriptions do not provide a verified, complete sequence of Deflector-specific screens, so exact button names and a guaranteed setup path cannot be stated here. At a high level, choose the target app and any relevant notification filters in Shortcuts, configure the automation to perform the intended workflow, and use Deflector’s documented interface to connect with the Shortcut you want to launch.
Shortcuts supports editing a personal automation so it can run without asking. Whether that is appropriate depends on what the Shortcut does and the prompts or permissions its actions require; it should not be read as a guarantee that every automation or action can execute silently.

Consider it if

- You are comfortable configuring a Shortcuts automation as part of the workflow.
It is not a fit if
- You expect to add custom action buttons to notifications from apps that do not provide them.
- You need a verified guarantee that a notification field or launcher surface behaves identically across apps or device states.
- You need a confirmed step-by-step Deflector configuration for a particular iOS release; the cited descriptions do not document every screen or state.
