An NVIDIA AI computer is a desktop or deskside system that NVIDIA makes or certifies for developing and running AI models locally, using its accelerated computing hardware and AI software stack. The phrase is NVIDIA’s descriptive term, not a formal industry category. In current NVIDIA materials it covers the DGX Spark and DGX Station families and partner-built computers certified on the GB10 platform.
What the term means in practice
Three things define the category as NVIDIA uses it. The first is form factor: the machine sits on a desk or beside one rather than in a server rack. The second is purpose: developing AI models and running inference, meaning generating outputs from a trained model, on the machine itself. The third is stack: NVIDIA accelerated computing hardware paired with NVIDIA’s AI software environment.

NVIDIA’s DGX Spark documentation lists local inference, model development, fine-tuning, and experimentation as use cases, and says the system can be used directly at the desk or accessed as a network appliance.

Two model-size figures apply to it, and they describe different tasks. The DGX Spark User Guide (an undated page NVIDIA hosts, accessed in 2026) says the system supports inference with models up to 200 billion parameters. NVIDIA’s launch announcement dated March 18, 2025 described fine-tuning models up to 70 billion parameters. A 200-billion-parameter inference ceiling does not mean the same size is available for fine-tuning.
DGX Station
DGX Station is the larger deskside system, intended for heavier local workloads. NVIDIA’s DGX Station Development Guide (undated, accessed in 2026) describes a GB300 Grace Blackwell Ultra system with up to 748 GB of coherent memory for the configuration it documents. NVIDIA’s certification list also includes a GIGABYTE GB300 system, which shows that the same platform class is built by partners. The NVIDIA documentation cited here does not state a model-size ceiling for DGX Station.

- VD8465 Japanese Authorized Distributor Product
- The speed of FP32 calculation is twice as fast as previous generations, which greatly improves the complex 3D processing and graphics simulation workflow
- Up to 2X the throughput compared to previous generations and significantly faster workloads such as video content rendering, architectural design assessments, and virtual prototypes of product design
- Achieve more than twice the previous generation AI performance improvement, support faster FP8 precision data and accelerate the execution of mixed flotation decimal and whole numbers
- It has a large capacity of memory necessary for working with a vast array of data sets and workloads such as rendering, data science, and simulation
Certified GB10 partner computers
NVIDIA-certified partner computers built on the GB10 platform are part of the same category. NVIDIA’s certification documentation names Acer, ASUS, Dell Technologies, GIGABYTE, HP, Lenovo, and MSI among certified system makers. Each manufacturer sets its own chassis, memory configuration, ports, warranty, and price, so a partner system is not identical to DGX Spark just because it uses the same chip.

How to read NVIDIA’s performance and capacity figures
Every figure NVIDIA publishes for these systems describes a vendor-specified configuration or a vendor claim. None of the material cited here is an independent benchmark. The words “up to” mark a maximum for the configuration described, not a typical result.
- 1,000 trillion operations per second for DGX Spark: NVIDIA’s March 18, 2025 announcement describes this as AI compute. The cited material does not state the numeric precision or test conditions behind the number, so it should not be compared directly with benchmark scores or with other vendors’ figures.
What the term does not mean
- It is not a formal universal category. NVIDIA uses the phrase to describe its own and certified products. No independent standards body or neutral benchmark defines it.
- It does not make every NVIDIA GPU PC equivalent to a DGX system. A consumer or workstation PC with an NVIDIA graphics card differs in intended workload, memory, preinstalled software, and support.
- It is not limited to NVIDIA-branded hardware. Certified GB10 partner computers fall within the category, so model and configuration matter more than the logo.
The clearest statement of intent comes from NVIDIA’s own announcement. In the March 18, 2025 release, founder and CEO Jensen Huang said: “It stands to reason a new class of computers would emerge — designed for AI-native developers and to run AI-native applications.” That is an executive’s description of the product category, not a definition agreed across the industry.
Quick Recap
What to check before comparing systems
- Identify the platform: GB10 (the DGX Spark class and partner GB10 systems) or GB300 (the DGX Station class).
- Confirm the exact memory capacity and whether the manufacturer describes it as unified or coherent memory.
- Match the model-size claim to your task, using the inference or fine-tuning figure that applies to your configuration.
- Confirm the software environment and support terms with the seller or manufacturer.
- Check connectivity and regional availability, since the cited sources do not establish availability in every market.
- Check the live product page for current price and stock, which change over time.
