DeepSeek’s current product page says Harness can run as a desktop app, but available official documentation does not confirm that version 0.2 introduced official desktop apps. The distinction matters: a separate community project called DSH Desktop has its own v0.2.x releases and explicitly says it is not an official DeepSeek product.
What is DeepSeek Harness?
DeepSeek describes Harness as open-source agent-harness software in public preview. Its developer overview presents a plugin-based architecture in which models, tools, skills, sessions, sandboxes, storage, execution loops, scheduling and the user interface can be swapped or recomposed. The developer documentation describes four operating modes. These are product descriptions, not independent performance evaluations.

How can you run Harness?
DeepSeek’s developer page documents a web-UI quick start and a source-installation route. The current product page also says Harness can run as a desktop app or launch a web UI from code. That establishes current product-page framing, not the history or specifics of a v0.2 desktop release.

Launch the web UI
- Install Node.js.
- In a terminal, run
npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web, as directed by the official developer overview.
Install from source
The developer overview also offers cloning the official repository for source installation. Follow the setup instructions in that repository for the applicable environment.
Does v0.2 bring official desktop apps?
The available official product and developer pages do not verify that v0.2 introduced official desktop apps. They do not establish an official installer’s release date, supported operating systems or architectures, minimum system requirements, or official download locations for such a release. The current product page’s mention of a desktop app should not be read as confirmation of those version-specific details.

What is DSH Desktop, and is it official?
DSH Desktop is a distinct, community-maintained desktop distribution. Its site says the packaged Harness runtime is official and unmodified, but its desktop application is not an official DeepSeek product. Its v0.2.x version numbers refer to that independent package’s release history, not necessarily to a DeepSeek Harness version. See the DSH Desktop FAQ.
