DeepSeek was reported to be nearing a funding round of at least 80 billion yuan, while Moonshot AI was reported to have completed private fundraising at a valuation of about $50 billion. Both companies were also linked to possible 2027 IPOs. These are reported financing and listing plans—not evidence that either company has gone public or that China has overtaken the United States in AI capability.

What DeepSeek is reportedly raising

Bloomberg News reported on October 6, 2026, that DeepSeek was close to raising at least 80 billion yuan, about $12 billion. Reuters reported the same day that the company was set to raise more than 80 billion yuan, rendering the amount as about $11.93 billion. Because the outlets use different dollar conversions, the yuan figure is the clearest point of comparison. Bloomberg News and Reuters attributed their accounts to people familiar with the matter.

The financing was still pending in those reports. Reuters said the round had exceeded an initial 50-billion-yuan target and was expected to close in October. Bloomberg said it could approach 100 billion yuan if signed term sheets became commitments. Neither outlet established a final close amount, so the larger figure is a possibility rather than a confirmed total.

Who is reported to be contributing

Bloomberg reported that Tencent and CATL were among the largest contributors. The reporting does not provide a confirmed investor-by-investor breakdown.

What is known about DeepSeek’s IPO plan

Bloomberg described an early-2027 IPO as a plan, while Reuters reported that DeepSeek was building a capital reserve ahead of a domestic IPO. As of October 7, 2026, the cited reporting did not establish that DeepSeek had filed for an IPO or completed a listing. The timing and eventual listing therefore remain prospective.

Moonshot AI’s funding and Hong Kong listing target

Bloomberg reporting republished by Yahoo Finance said Moonshot AI had closed its final private fundraising round at a valuation of about $50 billion and was heading toward a Hong Kong IPO in the first quarter of 2027. The account attributed the information to people familiar with the matter. The valuation is a reported private-company valuation, not a public-market capitalization, and the IPO was a target rather than a completed listing. Yahoo Finance carried the report.

How the reported U.S. plans compare

CoinDesk reported on October 6, 2026, that OpenAI planned to raise at least $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion pre-money valuation, and that Anthropic was considering a November IPO at a potential valuation around $2 trillion. These are CoinDesk’s reported claims, not independently confirmed figures in the reporting cited here. CoinDesk also disclosed that parts of its article were prepared with AI assistance and reviewed by its editorial team. CoinDesk does not establish that these prospective U.S. transactions had been completed.

The figures describe different things: DeepSeek’s reported funding round, Moonshot’s reported private valuation, OpenAI’s proposed fundraising and pre-money valuation, and Anthropic’s possible IPO valuation. They should not be read as directly comparable measures of company size or market value.

What these deals do—and do not—say about the AI race

Large financing rounds and ambitious listing plans indicate investor interest and access to private capital. They do not, on their own, measure model quality, compute or hardware access, revenue, customer adoption, or public-market performance. The reports cited here do not provide comparable evidence on those measures, so they cannot establish whether U.S. or Chinese companies lead in AI overall.

All of the financing and listing details above were reported on October 6, 2026, largely on the basis of unnamed sources familiar with the companies’ plans. No official company announcement or filing confirming the DeepSeek round, the proposed IPOs, or the U.S. financing and IPO details appears in the cited reporting. These plans and figures may change.
