There is no single best dedicated server for every startup. A rented bare-metal server can suit a steady, hardware-intensive workload or a team that needs control over its machine, but the right choice depends on workload, customer location, operating skills, availability needs, and the full cost of running it. The two current official price examples here—Hetzner in Germany/Finland and OVHcloud’s UK Advance tier—cover different markets and configurations, so their headline prices are not a like-for-like ranking.
What a dedicated server is—and when a startup may need one
A dedicated server is a rented physical machine assigned to one customer; providers also commonly call this service bare metal. It is not the same as buying equipment for an office or data center: the provider supplies the hosted hardware, while the startup must establish which operating and resilience responsibilities are included and which it must handle.

Consider dedicated hardware when you have a known workload that benefits from consistent access to a machine’s resources or greater hardware control. It is not automatically the right next step just because an application is busy or a cloud bill is difficult to predict. Compare it with the alternatives your team can operate, using measured workload needs and total operating effort rather than the word “best.”
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors- Workload fit: Identify CPU, memory, storage, and network requirements, and whether they are steady or change sharply.
- Customer location: Choose a data-center region that makes sense for the users and services that depend on it; confirm latency with your own workload.
- Operating capacity: Account for provisioning, monitoring, maintenance, security, and incident response that the provider does not explicitly include.
- Availability and recovery: Decide what redundancy, backups, and recovery objectives you need, then verify who supplies each part.
- Growth path: Check whether you can change configuration, add capacity, or move workloads without unacceptable downtime or migration work.
Two official price points, not a like-for-like contest
The following are dated examples from provider pages, not a market-wide survey or a recommendation based on independent performance testing. Their configurations and geographic markets differ.
#1 Best Overall
- Adjustable Depth: 23-40'' adjustable depth is used for servers and network equipment, ensuring enough space for AV equipment, components, and cabling, while allowing you to access ports and equipment from multiple sides.
- Strong Load Capacity: Ground-Mounted Load Capacity: 500 lbs, Wall-Mounted Load Capacity: 150 lbs. The av rack is made of carbon steel for better weldability performance and can help save space while meeting your need to place multiple devices.
- User-friendly Design: Ergonomic design makes the open frame av rack easier to use. The additional top panel is able to place other items with more available space. Roller design moves anywhere and anytime, is convenient, and is more energy-saving.
- Complete Accessories: We provide the accessories you need, including 2 x Pallets, 145 x M5*10 Cross Head Screws, 4 x Casters, 4 x M10*50 Expansion Screws,10 x M6*12 Cage Nuts, 1 x Grounding Wire, 1 x User Manual.
- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
| Provider and market | Published price and configuration | Important qualifications |
|---|---|---|
| Hetzner Online, Falkenstein and Helsinki | AX42-1: €97.30 per month plus a €49 setup fee | Hetzner’s dedicated-server table lists this price effective June 15, 2026. VAT and IPv4 are excluded. Confirm the actual order’s configuration and availability. Hetzner price-adjustment notice |
| OVHcloud, UK page | Advance tier from £98.99 per month; listed ranges are 6–24 cores, 32 GB–1 TB RAM, 2–8 disks, and 1–5 Gbps public bandwidth | The starting price excludes VAT and is from the UK bare-metal page accessed October 7, 2026. It is not an equivalent configuration to the Hetzner AX42-1. OVHcloud UK Advance |
Do not infer that one is cheaper for your needs from those starting figures. Compare the actual machine and its recurring total, including setup, tax, IPs, storage, bandwidth terms, and any other required options. Check the live provider page before ordering because prices and plans can change.
What the published configuration options tell you
Hetzner says it initially offers up to three fixed configurations based on frequently ordered hardware options and add-ons, which it says represent about 90% of orders. That approximate share is the provider’s own explanation of its configuration approach, not an independent market statistic. The company also says customers can request custom solutions for evaluation. Hetzner dedicated-server FAQ

- Save valuable floor space: 6U wall mount server cabinet Dimensions: 13.78" H x21.65" W x17.72" D.Maximum mounting depth is 14.2"
- Keep critical network equipment secure: glass door and side panels are lockable to prevent unauthorized access. Front door can be installed on either side of the front of the cabinet to satisfy your door swing orientation preference
- Easy equipment configuration: Fully adjustable mounting rails and numbered U positions, with square holes for easy equipment mounting with top and bottom punch-out panels for easy cable access
- Durability: Made of high quality cold rolled steel holds up to 110lb (50kg) (Easy Assembly Required)
- PCI & HIPPA and EIA/ECA-310-E compliant
For a startup, the practical question is whether a listed configuration fits now and leaves a viable next step. Verify which model, add-ons, and region can actually be ordered; do not assume a custom request will be available on a particular schedule or that a fixed configuration can be resized in place.

How to compare offers for your startup
- Write down the workload envelope. Estimate the CPU, RAM, storage capacity and type, network demand, and expected utilization for the application you plan to run. Separate today’s measured needs from growth forecasts.
- Choose the region around users and dependencies. Identify where customers and connected services are located, then validate latency and data-location requirements for your use case.
- Compare equivalent hardware. Check CPU generation and core configuration, RAM, disk type and capacity, and whether storage redundancy is part of the configuration or your responsibility.
- Calculate the full cost. Include recurring charges, setup fees, VAT treatment, IPs, bandwidth or transfer terms, backups, and any required options. Ask whether quoted allowances recur or are one-time.
- Verify service commitments directly. Ask about provisioning, availability, support hours and response commitments, contract term, cancellation, and the process for changing or replacing a server. The cited pages do not establish comparable answers on these points.
- Assign operational ownership. Document who monitors the machine, applies updates, manages security, handles backups and recovery, and responds to incidents. Treat these as questions to resolve, not services to assume are included.
- Plan the exit and growth route. Before committing, determine how to migrate data and workloads, what downtime that requires, and what options exist if capacity or regional needs change.
When a dedicated server is the wrong kind of “scaling”
A physical server can provide dedicated resources, but that does not by itself make an application scalable or highly available. Scaling may require application changes, more than one machine, load distribution, replicated data, or a tested recovery plan. Those design choices bring additional cost and operational work, so evaluate them against the actual service-level needs of the startup.

- Installation:wall mount network rack is easy to install, with instructions or videos for reference;Equipped with multiple accessories, suitable for different needs
- Application:EIA/ECA-310-E Compliant;wall mounted 4u rack fits all 19" racks and cabinets to hold various IT, network, and AV equipment;wall mount rack available in 4U, 6U, and 8U to choose
If demand is highly variable, the team lacks infrastructure capacity, or rapid capacity changes are essential, compare the operational model of a dedicated machine with other hosting approaches before committing. The evidence here does not establish that bare metal outperforms a cloud instance for heavy load; that depends on workload, configuration, and how each option is operated.
