Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesStart with senro runs -n <count> to locate the run, then use its recorded events and plan.json to distinguish what happened from what the current pipeline definition might produce. For a live process, inspect a running step with senro shell; for a finished run, retrieve its saved workspace. Cache explanations and purity rechecks answer different questions, and senro rerun --run <id> repeats the recorded plan rather than asking generators to create a new one.
Find the run and replay its events
List recent runs and identify the relevant run ID:
senro runs -n <count>
For a plain-text retrospective, attach to the completed run:

senro attach --run <id> --ui=plain
The client can display recorded events offline. Its event history and the plan serve different purposes: events.jsonl stores observable run events in append order, while plan.json records the graph that was executed. Senro’s package overview describes this as an append-only event stream paired with an immutable plan (Senro package overview).
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Read step states alongside their logs. A step marked failed did not succeed; a dependent step marked skipped_upstream_failed did not run because an upstream dependency failed. A recovered step ultimately passed after a retry, which can reveal infrastructure flakiness that a final green result alone would hide. The command examples and behavior here are documented in Xavier Portilla Edo’s Senro pipeline debugging guide.
#1 Best Overall
Inspect the executed graph and saved workspace
Check dependencies in plan.json
Use the plan to verify the actual dependency edges and fan-out for that run; do not assume today’s pipeline definition would reconstruct the same graph. For example, extract the plan’s dependency field with jq:
jq '.steps[] | {name, needs}' plan.json
Adjust the field names to the plan’s actual structure. The important point is to inspect the recorded plan, not infer the graph from a changed source definition.
List, compare, and pull workspace data
Use senro ws ls and senro ws diff to inspect stored workspace indexes. To materialize a workspace from an ended run for local inspection, use senro ws pull with the run and workspace arguments required by the CLI.

A pulled snapshot is not a byte-for-byte copy of the host filesystem. Snapshot modes are normalized to 0644 or 0755, and mtimes are fixed at the epoch. UID, GID, extended attributes, ACLs, hard links, and device files are not preserved. If an issue depends on permissions or filesystem metadata, account for those snapshot boundaries before treating a difference as evidence of a pipeline change.
Shell into a live step when process state matters
For a running run, target the step’s own executor and workspace with:
senro shell --pid <pid> --step <step> -- <command>
The session is read-only. Use --tty when the command needs a real terminal; the guide documents it for local, container, and Kubernetes executors. Secrets are not delivered to the shell session, and the engine cannot host a shell once the run has finished. For a completed run, use senro ws pull instead.

Attaching to a live run is different from opening a step shell. senro attach can replay events so far, report current state, and follow new events. When the pipeline uses attach.Listen, the client can also issue controls such as pause, resume, retry, skip, rerun from a step, or set a breakpoint. Treat these as execution controls, not merely retrospective inspection.
Explain why a cache hit or miss occurred
Ask Senro to explain the key for a particular step:
senro cache explain --run <id> <step>
Compare changed and unchanged components rather than stopping at the overall hit-or-miss result. The guide lists command, environment, secret identity (not secret values), executor class, platform, input digests, workspace digests, mount shape, step shape, function identity, tool versions, and Senro version as key components.

Pay particular attention to workspace_digests: each mounted workspace contributes in full. Narrow declared Inputs do not narrow that workspace digest, so an edit that appears unrelated to the declared inputs can still cause a miss if it changes content anywhere in a mounted workspace. As the guide’s author, Xavier Portilla Edo, puts it: “The one that catches people is workspace_digests: every mounted workspace enters the key in full.”
Interpret purity rechecks carefully
To compare cached pure-step results against fresh executions, run:
Outdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallsenro verify --recheck-pure --run <id> --rerun
Senro restores throwaway trees based on the recorded cache-key workspaces, reexecutes cached pure steps, and compares the results without writing a cache entry. A mismatch indicates that outputs varied for the same recorded inputs; it does not, by itself, prove that the step is impure. Nondeterministic output and external side effects are separate questions. Senro does not sandbox network access, so this check cannot establish that a step had no network access or other external effects.

Repeat the recorded plan or generate new work
To repeat the graph saved for a run, use:
senro rerun --run <id>
This reuses the recorded plan. By contrast, --regenerate asks generators for a fresh subgraph, which can produce a different graph and different work. Choose the first when diagnosing or reproducing the recorded execution; choose regeneration only when the intent is to ask the generators what should run now.
Resolve common debugging surprises
- A downstream step says skipped: Check whether its state is
skipped_upstream_failed; that means it did not execute because a dependency failed. - A cache miss follows an unrelated-looking edit: Inspect
workspace_digestsand the mounted workspaces; all their content contributes to that key component. - Verification reports different outputs: Treat it as a reproducibility mismatch, not automatic proof of impurity or isolation from external effects.
- A shell is unavailable: Confirm that the step and engine are still running. For an ended run, retrieve the workspace instead.
- Snapshot permissions or metadata differ: Remember that modes and mtimes are normalized and several host metadata types are not preserved.
- Exit 127 appears without output: Inspect the work directory and executable path; the process may not have started. On the local executor, a subpath beneath a mount can be passed as a literal host path if it does not exactly match a mount point.
- A read-only mount appears to change: Local and SSH executors check
senro.ROafter execution; container and Kubernetes executors rely on kernel write refusal. A change can invalidate cache assumptions.
The guide’s examples were run against Senro v1.4.0 on Go 1.27.1, as stated by its author on September 11, 2026. That is the version context for those examples, not a claim that it is the latest release. The author describes the sample outputs as coming from a real broken run; they should be read as illustrative output, not as an independently reproduced test.
