In Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Dark Arisen expansion, Relics and Spoils are the rewards you collect in Norgan, but you cannot use them straight away. You take them to Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement, pay Rift Crystals for appraisal, and only then learn what the item does. Appraisal is the step that matters, and because equipment stats are randomized, an appraised relic can turn out strong or weak. The mechanics below come from VGC’s explainer, Capcom’s official product listing, and an unofficial fan wiki, with each claim attributed to its source.
What are Relics and Spoils?
Relics and Spoils are the expansion’s reward items gathered through exploration and combat in Norgan. VGC names three sources: gathering points, chests, and defeated enemies. Rewards are not limited to weapons and armor. VGC also lists Norgan Ducats, curatives, gold, and rare scrolls among the things you can pick up.

The difference between the two terms is not spelled out in the sources available at the time of writing, so treat them as the game’s umbrella term for loot that comes from the Norgan content and needs appraisal before it is useful.
How appraisal works
Based on VGC’s guide, the loop runs in this order:
#1 Best Overall
- A Grand Adventure – Dragon’s Dogma 2 begins in a subterranean jail, where the Dragon’s voice echoes in the fog of lost memories. With their heart taken by the Dragon, the Arisen is set on a path to slay that symbol of the world’s destruction as it soars through the sky on massive wings, breathing flames that scorch everything in its path. With the Arisen’s future veiled in mystery, what challenges and triumphs await on the path to their destiny?
- Single-Player Cooperation – Up to three mysterious otherworldly beings, known as Pawns, accompany the Arisen throughout their journey. Pawns create the feeling of a cooperative gameplay experience by offering unique characteristics, skills, and knowledge gained from their experiences with other Arisen.
- Made with RE ENGINE – Capcom’s advanced RE ENGINE produces vividly detailed, high fidelity graphics combined with immersive physics and complex and reactive character AI to create a setting where decisions, and their consequences, come to life.
- Explore Norgan and defeat enemies.
- Collect Relics and Spoils from gathering points, chests, and foes.
- Return to the Norgandian Settlement.
- Pay Jiera in Rift Crystals to appraise the item.
- Check the revealed stats and decide whether the item is worth keeping.
Appraisal is where the uncertainty comes in. VGC says the exact stats of an appraised equipment item are randomized, so two appraisals of similar-looking items can produce different results. Neither Capcom’s listing nor VGC’s guide publishes appraisal costs, stat ranges, or roll probabilities, so there is no reliable way to calculate the odds of a good result.
Deciding what to appraise
Because each appraisal costs Rift Crystals and the outcome is random, “appraise everything” is not a safe default. The fan wiki’s relic guide notes that Rift Crystals are also used for pawn hiring, which makes them a real resource trade-off rather than a free upgrade step. A practical approach is to appraise items that match the gear you already want to build around, and to hold back when you are short on crystals. This is a judgment call, not a tested optimal strategy.

What Capcom says about relics
Capcom’s product description reads: “Unearth and appraise forgotten relics to unlock powerful new weapons and skills that will aid you on your journey.” This is promotional copy from the product listing, not an independently measured claim about how strong the resulting items will be. No named developer or player quotation about appraisal was available when this article was prepared.
Relics compared with Lost Rites
Capcom’s listing also includes 12 Lost Rites dungeon challenges in the main area, which it describes as containing rare equipment in their depths. The two tracks differ in where rewards come from and how predictable they are. The table reflects what each source states and marks gaps as not stated.

| Point of comparison | Relics and Spoils (Norgan) | Lost Rites dungeon challenges |
|---|---|---|
| Where rewards come from | Gathering points, chests, and defeated enemies in Norgan (VGC guide) | 12 dungeon challenges in the main area with rare equipment in their depths (Capcom listing) |
| Step before use | Appraisal by Jiera at the Norgandian Settlement (VGC guide) | Not stated in the official listing |
| Cost to unlock stats | Rift Crystals per appraisal; exact cost not stated (VGC guide) | Not stated |
| Predictability of stats | Randomized after appraisal (VGC guide; fan wiki) | Fixed-property equipment according to the fan wiki; not confirmed by Capcom or VGC |
The fixed-versus-random distinction comes from a fan wiki, so treat it as a community-reported description until it is confirmed in released gameplay or official item documentation. It does not establish that either track is better. Relics offer variety at the cost of a random result; Lost Rites equipment is described as more predictable.
Which edition you need
Capcom’s listing separates the standalone expansion from a combined package and states that the expansion cannot be used without Dragon’s Dogma 2. Check which one you are buying before purchase.

The official release date is 9 October 2026, and the guide material used here was current as of 8 October 2026. Mechanics descriptions should be checked against the live game after launch, particularly the appraisal loop and crystal costs, before treating them as definitive instructions. For detailed relic data, the unofficial relic guide is the most specific source, but it is a fan project and its claims should be read with that in mind.
