CNBC’s October 8, 2026, Morning Squawk roundup covered a possible further Federal Reserve rate hike, PepsiCo’s latest quarter, rising oil prices amid renewed Iran tensions, campaign donations and several technology announcements. The details below reflect the roundup’s account; they have not been independently verified here against the underlying documents or data.
What the Fed minutes and inflation survey signaled
The roundup said minutes from the Federal Reserve’s September meeting showed officials saw another rate increase before the end of 2026 as a possibility. The minutes, as described in the roundup, did not identify when such a move might happen. That is a report about officials’ discussion, not a decision or a forecast of a specific meeting.

A New York Fed consumer survey was also reported to show the 12-month inflation outlook at its highest level since 2023, alongside a smaller share of households expecting to be financially better off in a year. The roundup separately described a New York Fed paper’s counterfactual finding: without President Donald Trump’s tariffs, prices for many everyday goods would have fallen over the prior year and early 2026. That finding concerns an estimate of what prices might have done absent tariffs, rather than a direct measurement of a tariff-free economy.

PepsiCo beat quarterly expectations but lowered its outlook
The roundup reported that PepsiCo exceeded Wall Street expectations for third-quarter revenue and earnings, with net sales up 5.6%. It said international operations accounted for 41% of year-to-date net revenue, while the North America beverage division continued to contract. PepsiCo’s domestic turnaround effort, as characterized in the roundup, emphasized ingredient innovation and advertising.
Despite the reported quarterly beat, PepsiCo cut its full-year earnings forecast with one quarter left in the year. The roundup therefore presented a mixed picture: stronger-than-expected quarterly results and international contribution alongside weakness in North American beverages and a lower annual outlook. The figures and company strategy are reported by the roundup, not independently confirmed here against PepsiCo’s earnings release.

Iran tensions pushed oil higher, while the diesel order’s effect was uncertain
The roundup said crude prices rose more than 4% in the morning after Trump said he no longer wanted a deal with Iran. It reported that he made the remark at a Wednesday-night campaign rally in Texas and that NBC News had reported discussions within Trump’s team about potentially resuming military operations. The roundup framed the oil move as a reaction to fears of renewed escalation; the report does not establish that military action would occur.

Analysts cited in the roundup cautioned that the measure might defer tax payments rather than eliminate them. Its practical and legal effect cannot be determined from the roundup’s description alone.
What the roundup’s campaign-finance numbers cover
Citing a CNBC analysis of Federal Election Commission records, the roundup said 14 of the 20 largest donors and donor groups were exclusively or almost entirely backing Republican candidates or aligned groups. That figure applies to the roundup’s defined set of top donors and groups; it is not a measure of all political giving.
The roundup also described Democratic donors as increasingly directing money around the Democratic National Committee. It said fundraisers pointed to dissatisfaction after the prior election cycle, concerns about party leadership and the influence of the party’s democratic-socialist bloc. Separately, it reported that conservative super PACs outspent Democratic counterparts by almost 2-to-1 from Labor Day through September 25. That comparison is limited to the stated groups and period, based on FEC records as reported in the roundup.

Technology announcements were secondary threads
The roundup reported that Microsoft announced a laptop using an Nvidia chip, listed at $2,599, with preorders open and shipping expected the following week. It also said Meta planned to roll out a Windows version of its Muse AI agent. Those were announcements and availability expectations reported on October 8, not confirmation of present-day stock or shipping.
The roundup named Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Dell CEO Michael Dell in connection with a planned White House honors event. It also included Diet Pepsi in an image caption; that mention was contextual, not a product review or buying recommendation.
