For a conventional DayZ dedicated server, set the game port with -port=2302 and configure the Steam browser query port as steamQueryPort = 2305; in serverDZ.cfg. Forward those UDP ports, plus the adjacent Steam networking ports required by the server documentation. A server may accept direct connections while remaining invisible in the server browser if its query port is blocked, mismatched, or forwarded incorrectly.

Port 2305 is the current example in Bohemia Interactive’s configuration reference and recent DayZ setup documentation. Older community guides often use 27016, so the value in your own serverDZ.cfg and startup logs is authoritative.

DayZ server port map
DayZ does not have one universal port for every installation. The launch parameter selects the main game port, while the configuration file selects the Steam query port. The following values are the current documented example for a standard instance based on a 2302 game port.

Open the same UDP ports in the operating system firewall and, when the machine is behind a router, forward them to the server’s private IP address. Do not assume that opening only 2302 is sufficient for browser discovery.

What the DayZ game port does
The default example is UDP 2302
The dedicated server listens for normal game traffic on the port supplied to the executable. Bohemia Interactive’s configuration reference gives -port=2302 as its example. The parameter is written directly in the launch command, such as DayZServer_x64.exe -port=2302 on Windows.
Because the port is a startup argument rather than a permanent protocol constant, another administrator can run the same server on 2301, 2310, or any other unused port. The number shown in a hosting panel, service definition, batch file, or shell script is the value clients must use for direct connection.
UDP is required
DayZ game traffic uses UDP for this listener. A TCP-only firewall rule or TCP-only router forward will not make the game endpoint reachable. If you create separate rules by protocol, select UDP for the game port and for the query port.
What the Steam query port does
Use 2305 when your configuration follows the current example
The Steam query endpoint supplies server-browser information such as whether the instance responds and which details should be displayed. The current Bohemia Interactive reference shows:

steamQueryPort = 2305;Recent DayZ setup documentation likewise describes 2305 UDP as the default example and notes that it is configurable through steamQueryPort. Forwarding the query port to the wrong machine, blocking it at the host firewall, or leaving a different value in the configuration can make a healthy server disappear from the browser.
Why older guides say 27016
Many long-standing Steam Community posts and server templates use UDP 27016 for DayZ queries. That is a historical community convention, not proof that every current DayZ server should use 27016. Some wrapper applications also select their own query defaults. Treat the value in serverDZ.cfg as the authority for your instance.

Choose one configured query port, allow that exact UDP port through the host firewall, and forward the same port on the router. If you intentionally change the value, restart the server and verify the new listener in the startup log.
Query traffic is separate from game traffic
The query endpoint is not a second name for the game port. A direct-connect test can succeed through 2302 while the browser still shows nothing because the query request to 2305 is blocked or sent elsewhere. Test direct gameplay and browser visibility as separate functions.

Steam networking and the adjacent ports
DayZ troubleshooting guidance identifies UDP 2303 and 2304 as adjacent Steam networking ports when the base game port is 2302, with 2305 used for the query endpoint. The documented block therefore looks like this:
- 2302 UDP: main game traffic.
- 2303–2304 UDP: Steam networking traffic identified by the troubleshooting guidance.
- 2305 UDP: Steam query and browser visibility.
The same guidance says the reserved block shifts when the base port changes. Do not copy the 2302–2305 range unchanged onto an instance launched with another base port. Recalculate the adjacent range according to the server documentation and inspect the server log for the actual listeners.
Launch and configuration examples
Windows-style startup command
A typical Windows command using the documented 2302 game port is:
DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheckThe extra switches control logging and diagnostics; they do not replace the port settings. The game port remains the number after -port=, while the query port is read from serverDZ.cfg.

Linux-style startup command
Bohemia Interactive’s Linux hosting example uses the same pattern but demonstrates that the game port can be changed:
./DayZServer -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2301 ...With -port=2301, the instance is no longer using 2302 for game traffic. Its adjacent Steam networking and query range must be adjusted as a block, and every firewall or router rule must match the resulting values.
Configuration-file entries
Keep the query setting explicit in the configuration file rather than relying on an assumed default:
steamQueryPort = 2305;The official reference also shows clientPort = 2304;. This is a client-port setting, not a substitute for the server’s main game listener or its query listener. Avoid changing multiple port values at once unless you have recorded the intended mapping and can verify each listener after restart.
How to open and forward the ports
- Identify the actual game port. Open the launch script, service definition, or hosting-panel command and record the number after
-port=. If no parameter is present, compare the startup log with the host’s documented default rather than guessing. - Identify the actual query port. Open
serverDZ.cfgand record the number assigned tosteamQueryPort. Use this value even if an older guide or wrapper suggests 27016. - Create host-firewall UDP rules. Allow the game port, the adjacent Steam networking ports required for that base port, and the configured query port. Apply the rules to the network profile used by the server.
- Forward the same UDP ports on the router. Point each external port to the server’s fixed private IP address. A mismatch such as forwarding 2305 to another machine or forwarding TCP instead of UDP will break discovery.
- Restart and inspect logs. Stop and start the server after changing a port. Confirm that the log reports the expected game and query listeners and that no second process is already using them.
- Test in two ways. First try a direct connection to the game address and port. Then check the Steam browser. A successful direct connection proves game traffic works; browser visibility additionally proves that the query path works.
Troubleshooting a server missing from the browser
Direct connection works, browser listing does not
This pattern usually points to the query path rather than the game listener. Recheck steamQueryPort, permit that exact UDP port through the host firewall, and verify the router forwards it to the same machine as the game port. Also check that the server is not bound to a different private address after a DHCP lease change.
Neither direct connection nor browser listing works
- Confirm the process is running and has not exited because another service already owns the selected port.
- Compare the launch command with the port you are testing; a server started on 2301 will not answer direct traffic sent to 2302.
- Check host-firewall rules for UDP rather than TCP.
- Check the router’s destination IP and make the server’s private address static or reserved.
- Review startup logs for binding errors, invalid configuration syntax, or a different query-port value.
The server appears intermittently
Intermittent visibility can result from forwarding to a changing private IP, duplicate instances sharing a query port, or a wrapper rewriting defaults. Assign a fixed address, give each instance unique game and query ports, and document the mapping. Then restart one instance at a time and verify its log.
Testing from inside the same network
Some routers handle internal access to a public address differently from external access. Test from an external connection as well as from the local network. A local direct-connect failure can be a router loopback limitation rather than a DayZ port problem, while an external browser failure usually indicates forwarding, firewall, or query configuration.
Running multiple DayZ instances
Each instance needs a non-conflicting game port and query port. Do not launch two servers with -port=2302, and do not give both of them the same steamQueryPort. Keep a written table for every instance containing its private IP, game port, adjacent reserved range, query port, configuration path, and firewall rules.
When adding an instance, choose its base game port first, calculate the associated adjacent range from the server documentation, then select an unused query port. Update the launch command, serverDZ.cfg, host firewall, and router forwarding together. A conflict can prevent one process from starting or cause browser information to appear under the wrong instance.

Wrapper and launcher defaults
Hosting wrappers may not follow the values in a plain DayZ installation. For example, the ServerZ README documents 2302/UDP for game traffic and 27015/UDP for its query port. That does not make 27015 a universal DayZ default; it shows why the wrapper’s own documentation and generated configuration must be checked.
Older community material may also mention a DZSALauncher TCP port at game port plus 10, such as 2312/TCP when the game port is 2302. This is historical community practice, not the current official DayZ configuration example. Add such a rule only when the launcher or service you actually use requires it; do not expose unrelated ports by habit.
