DayZ launch parameters are command-line switches passed to DayZServer_x64.exe. A reliable Windows baseline is DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheck. The switches select the configuration file, listening port, profile directory, logging options and freeze protection; additional parameters control missions, mods, BattlEye paths, CPU use, frame rate and storage.

What DayZ launch parameters control
The dedicated server executable reads its launch parameters when the process starts. They control process-level behavior and file locations rather than replacing the settings inside serverDZ.cfg. The configuration file normally contains server identity, gameplay, security, persistence and mission settings. Launch parameters tell the executable which configuration to load and where to listen, write profiles, find BattlEye files, load mods and place storage.

Every option uses a switch beginning with a hyphen. Options that take a value use an equals sign, such as -port=2302 or -config=serverDZ.cfg. Multiple mod paths are separated with semicolons. Keep the command in the same order when troubleshooting so that a missing, misspelled or incorrectly located value is easy to identify.
A practical Windows baseline
DayZServer_x64.exe -config=serverDZ.cfg -port=2302 -profiles=profiles -dologs -adminlog -netlog -freezecheckThis starts a server with serverDZ.cfg, uses 2302 as the documented example game port, writes profiles and related output to a folder named profiles, enables general, administrator and network logging, and enables freeze protection. The setup guidance describes 2302 as the main game port; adjacent ports are also used by the server, so a firewall or hosting control panel must permit the complete port arrangement required by your deployment.

-profiles=profiles is more than a log location. The profile directory is where logs, crash dumps and related BattlEye, BEC and RCON files are written, and the setup guide also identifies it as the location for player data. Use a persistent directory, not a temporary folder that a host may erase during a restart.

How to assemble the command step by step
- Start with the executable. Open the script, shortcut or service definition that launches
DayZServer_x64.exe. Keep the working directory aligned with the installation so relative paths such asserverDZ.cfgandprofilesresolve where you expect. - Select the configuration file. Add
-config=serverDZ.cfg, or provide the path to the file you actually intend to use. If the server starts with unexpected identity, gameplay or persistence settings, verify this switch before changing the configuration contents. - Choose the game port. Add
-port=2302when using the documented example. If you operate more than one instance, assign each instance its own port arrangement and ensure the host exposes the required adjacent ports as well. - Set a persistent profile directory. Add
-profiles=profilesor an absolute path. Confirm that the account running the server can write there. This directory should survive restarts because it contains operational logs, dumps and related service files. - Turn on the logs you need. The baseline uses
-dologs -adminlog -netlog. Keep the general RPT output for broad diagnostics; add administrator and network records when auditing actions or investigating connection behavior. - Enable freeze protection. Add
-freezecheckif a process that remains frozen for more than five minutes should be stopped and a dump generated for investigation. - Add the mission only when needed. Use
-mission=<path>when the server must load a mission path explicitly rather than relying on the normal configuration and installation layout. - Add mods with the correct switch. Put client-visible content after
-mod=and server-only content after-serverMod=. Keep each path exact and separate multiple paths with semicolons. - Apply tuning conservatively. Add
-cpuCount=<n>only with a value no greater than the available logical cores. Add-limitFPS=<n>when an FPS ceiling is part of your CPU-management plan, staying at or below the documented maximum of 200. - Relocate BattlEye or storage only deliberately. Use
-BEpath=<path>for a custom BattlEye location and-storage=<path>for a custom storage root. Record both paths in your backup and migration documentation.
-mod versus -serverMod
The distinction is about who must possess and load the content. Use -mod for mods that change the client-visible game experience. A player normally needs matching content to join a server using those mods. Use -serverMod for server-side logic that should run on the host without being broadcast to clients.

A client-facing dependency belongs in the client-visible list; host-only tooling belongs in the server-only list. If a server-side mod is accidentally placed in -mod, clients may be asked to load content they do not need. If a client dependency is placed only in -serverMod, clients will not receive it and the modded experience may fail.

Ordering dependencies
When several mods are listed, dependency order matters. Put a shared library or framework before the content mods that depend on it. For example, the conceptual form is -mod=@SharedLibrary;@ContentMod, not the reverse. Apply the same semicolon-separated syntax to multiple server-only mods, such as -serverMod=@ServerLogicA;@ServerLogicB.
What belongs in serverDZ.cfg and what belongs on the command line
Use serverDZ.cfg for server identity, gameplay rules, security, persistence and mission settings. Use launch parameters for selecting that file and controlling the process environment: ports, profile and storage paths, logging, BattlEye location, CPU and FPS limits, file patching and mod loading.
This boundary prevents a common setup error: placing the mod list in serverDZ.cfg when the mod documentation expects -mod= or -serverMod=. If a setting appears to be ignored, first decide whether it is a configuration-file setting or a process launch switch, then inspect the correct location.

Choosing a launch profile for different deployments

Whether the machine is local or hosted, it must be able to run the dedicated executable, expose the configured port arrangement, retain profile and storage files, support BattlEye where required and load the selected mods. A managed host may provide controls for these values, but the resulting command still needs to match the paths and switches documented here.

The server starts with the wrong settings
Check -config first. A typo, relative path resolved from an unexpected working directory or a second configuration file can make the process load a different identity, mission or persistence setup than intended.
Players cannot reach the server
Verify that the server is listening on the value supplied to -port and that the host or firewall permits the adjacent ports used by the server. A correct configuration file cannot compensate for a blocked or incorrectly forwarded port arrangement.

Logs are missing
Confirm that -profiles points to the directory you are inspecting and that the server account can write there. Then verify that the required logging switches are present: -doLogs for full RPT messages, -adminLog for administrator activity and -netLog for network traffic.
A freeze produces no diagnostic dump
Check for -freezeCheck in the actual launch command, not only in a template or control-panel field. The documented behavior triggers after a freeze longer than five minutes and writes a dump through the server’s output paths.
A modded server rejects clients
Inspect whether client-visible mods were supplied with -mod, whether players have the same content and whether dependencies are ordered with shared libraries first. Move host-only components to -serverMod when they should not be sent to clients.
CPU usage or frame rate is unexpected
Review -cpuCount against the machine’s available logical cores and check whether -limitFPS is imposing a cap. Neither switch creates additional hardware capacity; they only shape how the server schedules work and limits its frame rate.

Build the command around five decisions: which configuration file to load, which port arrangement to expose, where persistent profiles and storage belong, which diagnostics to retain and whether each mod is client-visible or server-only. Start with the baseline command, add only the switches your deployment needs, and keep the configuration-file settings separate from executable launch parameters.
