Dating Apps for Networking and Jobs: What the Trend Really Shows

Dating apps are sometimes used for career conversations, but reported use and a networking feature do not prove better hiring outcomes.

Some people use dating apps to make work-related connections, and Bumble has presented Bumble Bizz as a professional networking feature. But that establishes use and product intent—not that dating apps help people get hired. A LinkedIn News report says nearly one-third of dating-app users had used the apps for job-related purposes; the underlying survey details are not identified in the available report, so treat that as a reported finding rather than a definitive estimate.

What “dating apps for networking” means

The phrase covers two different things: people repurposing a dating app for career conversations, and a feature designed specifically for professional connections. They should not be treated as the same behavior. A dating match may be interested in dating, not work; a professional feature signals a different purpose, though it still does not guarantee interest or a useful connection.

Informal job-related use

LinkedIn News reported on December 29, 2025, that nearly one-third of dating-app users had used the apps for job-related purposes (LinkedIn News). The available report does not identify the survey organization, sample, field dates, or methodology. It therefore cannot establish how representative the figure is, which groups it applies to, or whether this use is growing over time.

A professional feature within a dating-app company

Bumble describes Bizz as a professional networking feature for people to connect, share, and learn (Bumble Bizz). That is a company description of the feature, not evidence of how widely people use it or whether it produces job offers. Bumble’s 2023 proxy statement also described its apps as spanning dating, friendship, and professional networking (Bumble 2023 proxy statement), which provides corporate context rather than independent adoption data.

What Bumble Bizz was designed to do

A 2016 TIME report described Bumble Bizz as a swipe-based way to discover local business contacts. It quoted founder and then-CEO Whitney Wolfe describing the goal as facilitating a career-changing connection (TIME, 2016). That account is useful for understanding the feature’s historical intent, but it does not verify how Bizz works now or whether it is available in every country or app version.

Bumble’s official page presents Bizz as a place for professional connection, but readers should check Bumble’s current app and official information for their location before relying on the feature. The sources cited here do not establish current availability by market or provide dependable access instructions.

Can dating apps help you find a job?

They may help someone start a conversation or meet a contact, but the available evidence does not show that dating-app networking increases referrals, interviews, or job offers. A platform’s networking purpose, a user’s anecdote, and a survey about job-related use are not proof of employment effectiveness. Bumble’s statement of intent for Bizz likewise describes what the feature aims to facilitate, not measured hiring results.

Keep broader Bumble statistics in their proper context. The company reported over 42 million average monthly users across its app family in 2024 (Bumble Inc. 2024 reporting); that figure is not a count of Bizz users. Bumble’s 2025 dating-trends report drew on polling of 41,294 members aged 18–35 worldwide, conducted September 19–23, 2024 (Bumble 2025 dating-trends report); those findings concern dating trends, not career networking.

Choosing a channel for a professional connection

Established professional platforms are built around career identity and networking. A dating app may offer discovery or matching, but a dating profile and its expectations can make work outreach ambiguous. There is no head-to-head evidence in the sources cited here that ranks these channels by job-search results. Compare them by fit rather than assuming one is more effective.

What to compare Professional networking platform Dating app or dating-company feature
Purpose Career networking is the context. A general dating app may be repurposed; a feature such as Bumble Bizz is presented as professional networking.
Profile context Career identity and professional goals are expected. A standard dating profile may foreground dating preferences; a professional feature may provide a different context.
Discovery Use the platform’s professional discovery tools; the sources here do not compare specific current mechanisms. TIME described Bumble Bizz as swipe-based local discovery in 2016; that historical description does not establish current functionality.
Conversation expectations Professional outreach is more legible, though a recipient can still decline. A dating match is not consent to career outreach or evidence of professional interest.
Evidence of hiring outcomes No comparative outcome evidence is established by the sources cited here. No evidence cited here shows improved interviews, referrals, or offers.

If you use a dating app for work, make the purpose clear

  • Use a professional feature if one is available to you, rather than assuming a dating match welcomes career outreach.
  • State briefly and respectfully why you are reaching out; do not disguise a work request as romantic interest.
  • Ask whether the other person is open to a career conversation and accept a no or no response without follow-up pressure.
  • Do not treat a match, conversation, or networking feature as a hiring signal. Continue using channels built around job search and professional networking.

What the evidence can—and cannot—establish

  • LinkedIn News reported job-related use of dating apps, but the available report result omits the survey’s organization and methodology.
  • Bumble has described Bizz as a professional connection feature; TIME’s account of its swipe-based discovery is historical.
  • The cited sources do not establish a rise over time, current Bizz availability in every market, or improved hiring outcomes.
