Cypress builds a full-page image by scrolling and stitching captures, so sticky elements, page layout, and timing can also affect the result. The right fix depends on which part is missing.
1. Confirm Cypress is capturing the full application
Use an explicit full-page capture while diagnosing:
cy.screenshot('page', { capture: 'fullPage' })Cypress documents capture: 'fullPage' as capturing the application from top to bottom. Its method scrolls vertically, takes screenshots at successive positions, and stitches them together; it is not one native full-document browser image. Check the actual capture mode in the command that produced the file. viewport captures the current viewport, while runner includes the browser viewport and Cypress Command Log. Automatic screenshots taken on test failure may be coerced to runner, so a failure artifact can differ from a normal application screenshot. Consult the API documentation for the behavior of your installed Cypress version.
2. Remove unintended cropping
Look for a clip option in the screenshot call or shared configuration. It crops the result to the requested x, y, width, and height. Temporarily remove it and capture again. If the missing content returns, adjust or remove the crop rather than changing the page layout.

3. Identify where the content is missing
Compare the saved image with the page and its expected document dimensions. Determine whether the missing area is below the viewport, outside the horizontal scroll area, or absent within what appears to be a viewport-sized layout. Cypress does not prescribe one universal diagnostic script for this comparison; it is a way to narrow down which capture behavior or page condition to investigate.
- Only the visible screen appears: verify that the capture mode is
fullPage, notviewport. - A rectangular area is missing: check for a
clipcrop. - Content beyond a horizontal scrollbar is missing: see the horizontal-overflow section below.
- The image ends at an unexpected page boundary: inspect the layout and viewport dimensions, then reduce the case to a minimal reproduction.
4. Handle fixed and sticky elements
Because Cypress captures at multiple vertical positions, a fixed or sticky header may appear more than once in the stitched image or interfere with how the page looks between captures. Cypress suggests temporarily changing the affected element to position: absolute before capturing, then restoring its prior position. Adapt this example to your page:

cy.get('.sticky-header').invoke('css', 'position', null)This simple sequence restores the element to its stylesheet-defined position after a successful screenshot. If the screenshot command fails, the later command might not run. Use cleanup that runs on failure in your test structure, and verify that the temporary position change does not shift or cover other content. The CSS change is a workaround for the capture, not a universal correction for page clipping.

5. Check oversized viewports and layout constraints
An open, triaged Cypress issue reports clipping with a very large viewport and a CSS-grid layout on Cypress 12.2.0 and Windows 10 Pro. That report is evidence of a specific case, not proof that the same cause explains cutoffs in other Cypress versions, browsers, or operating systems. If the page uses rules such as html, body { width: 100vw; height: 100vh; }, CSS grid, or has no top-level scrollbar, test a smaller viewport and compare the actual saved image dimensions.
Reduce the test to a minimal reproduction with the Cypress version, browser, operating system, viewport configuration, relevant CSS, and screenshot options recorded. Compare fullPage with other capture modes. Avoid assuming that increasing the viewport or enabling scaling will fix every case: Cypress sets screenshot scale to false by default, and the cited evidence does not establish scale: true as a general cutoff fix.

6. Treat horizontal overflow as a separate problem
The documented full-page approach scrolls vertically. A Cypress issue report describes a horizontally scrolling page that is not fully represented by that method. Treat this as a version-specific issue lead, not a guarantee about every current release. Verify it with a small reproduction in your installed Cypress version. If content exists beyond horizontal overflow, consider capturing the relevant element or structuring the test around the content that needs checking; the cited sources do not establish one universal workaround for capturing every horizontally scrolled region.
7. Wait for a stable page state
Screenshot capture is asynchronous, and the page can change while the capture is underway. Cypress recommends stabilizing the page for visual tests. Before taking the screenshot, wait for the application state you intend to test: for example, wait for a relevant selector or for test data to be rendered using your normal Cypress assertions. Also account for changing content, fonts, and rendering conditions; Cypress’s visual testing guide discusses these as factors in visual differences.

Do not use an arbitrary delay as a substitute for a reliable readiness condition when the page exposes one. Capture only after the expected content is present, and keep data and other dynamic elements deterministic where possible.
8. Troubleshoot common symptoms

9. When to use a visual-testing workflow
cy.screenshot() creates an image; it does not compare that image with a baseline. If the real goal is to detect visual changes, Cypress’s visual testing guide describes comparison plugins and hosted services, and its documentation lists integrations including Applitools, Argos, Chromatic, Happo, LambdaTest SmartUI, Percy, Sauce Labs Visual, SmartBear VisualTest, and Wopee.io. These are workflow options for comparison or review, not guaranteed fixes for an underlying capture cutoff. Check each provider’s current capture behavior, overflow support, browser and viewport rendering, baseline management, CI integration, and review workflow before choosing one.
