What cybersecurity jobs are available right now? A dated snapshot accessed October 7, 2026, showed 145 distinct U.S. federal cybersecurity openings across 538 cities in 53 states and territories on the NICCS Cybersecurity Career Map. That is a changing federal listing count—not a live count of every U.S. or global cybersecurity vacancy. Check each announcement on USAJOBS to confirm it is still open.
Where to find current cybersecurity openings
Start with the NICCS Cybersecurity Career Map, which surfaces federal cybersecurity job announcements powered by USAJOBS and lets you explore listings by location and salary. The map is a discovery tool; the underlying USAJOBS announcement is the place to verify application status and read the controlling requirements.

- Open the NICCS Cybersecurity Career Map and search or filter by location and salary to identify relevant federal announcements.
- Open the corresponding announcement on USAJOBS. Confirm that applications are still being accepted, and review the duties, qualifications, location, telework details, eligibility, and deadline.
- Use the announcement’s instructions to prepare and submit your application. CISA advises applicants: “Be sure to tailor your resume to the specific job announcement and attach relevant documents.” See CISA’s Cybersecurity/IT Careers page.
The October 7 map snapshot included announcements with an October 6, 2026 apply-by date. A deadline on that date does not establish that the job remained open afterward; check the current USAJOBS page rather than relying on a saved or cached result.

One example was a Cybersecurity Technical Writer position in Arlington, Virginia, displaying an annual salary range of $102,415–$158,322 and an October 6, 2026 apply-by date. The map result was accessed October 7, 2026, and the specific announcement should be checked directly before treating the role as available or relying on its details.

Other titles visible in that snapshot included IT Cybersecurity Specialist (Apps/Infosec), supervisory IT program manager, and supervisory IT specialist in policy/planning. These examples illustrate the range of work that can appear in federal listings; they are not a complete occupation or location list.
How to compare listings
Do not choose by title or headline salary alone. Each announcement sets its own requirements and terms. Compare the details that determine whether a role is a realistic fit:
Rank #2
- Job family and seniority: distinguish hands-on technical work, writing or policy roles, and supervisory or program-management positions.
- Experience and credentials: check the exact qualifications and any required certifications or specialized experience stated in the announcement.
- Location and telework: confirm the duty station and any telework conditions in the announcement; a map filter or indicator is not a substitute for the full posting.
- Pay: read the salary range in context, including the announcement’s stated location and conditions.
- Deadline: verify the closing date and time on the active announcement.
- Eligibility and clearance: check who may apply and whether the posting specifies citizenship, suitability, or security-clearance conditions.
- Application documents: follow the announcement’s list and format requirements, tailoring your resume to the role.
What workforce reports can—and cannot—tell you
Workforce surveys help explain which capabilities employers say they need, but they are not job boards and do not confirm a particular vacancy is open.

ISC2 did not publish a workforce-gap estimate in this edition, noting the emphasis respondents placed on skills needs rather than a single headcount-gap figure.
- ISC2’s 2026 analysis of the 2025 study reported that 95% of respondents said their organizations had at least one cybersecurity skills need, while 59% reported a critical or significant deficiency. Reported needs included AI, cloud computing, risk assessment, application security, and governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC). These are survey responses, not counts of open jobs.
- SANS Institute’s 2026 Cybersecurity Workforce Research Report reported a survey finding that the need for specialists to handle new roles rose from 23% in 2025 to 53% in 2026. The finding is not a live vacancy count and is not established as U.S.-only.
These findings can help you recognize skills themes while reviewing roles, but the specific qualifications in an individual announcement matter more than a general survey trend.

Scope: federal U.S. listings, not the whole market
The 145-opening figure is a dynamic display count from the NICCS map snapshot accessed October 7, 2026. It covers federal cybersecurity announcements surfaced by that resource, not all U.S. private-sector vacancies or jobs worldwide. No figure in the available evidence establishes the total number of cybersecurity jobs currently open across either the U.S. private sector or the globe.
For readers looking outside the United States, the U.K. government maintains separate material on cybersecurity skills, vacancies, and labor demand in the U.K. market. Its labor-market information should not be combined with the NICCS federal count.
