Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteWindows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread

JFrog classifies it as a critical improper-authentication flaw (CWE-287). Its advisory says that under default configuration, an unauthenticated attacker with network access may obtain administrative privileges. Self-hosted installations need to be upgraded to the fixed release for their branch. JFrog says affected cloud environments have already been fortified and require no action on the customer’s side.
Is my Artifactory version affected?
Start by identifying the exact release on each self-managed server. The vulnerable ranges below come from JFrog’s security advisory for CVE-2026-82329, which was published and last updated on August 28, 2026. Compare your version against the branch row that matches it, then confirm the range against JFrog’s live advisory, since release data can change after publication.

| Release branch (vulnerable range) | Fixed release |
|---|---|
| 7.111.4 – 7.111.20 | 7.111.21 |
| 7.117.0 – 7.117.27 | 7.117.28 |
| 7.125.0 – 7.125.19 | 7.125.20 |
| 7.133.0 – 7.133.28 | 7.133.29 |
| 7.146.0 – 7.146.36 | 7.146.38 |
| 7.161.0 – 7.161.19 | 7.161.20 |
Note that the fixed release for the 7.146 branch is 7.146.38, not 7.146.37. Upgrade to the listed fixed release for your branch rather than just the next patch number.

Two deployment types need different answers:
- Self-managed (self-hosted) Artifactory: the vulnerable ranges above apply. Find your installed version and, if it falls in a listed range, plan the upgrade.
- JFrog Cloud: JFrog states that affected cloud environments have already been fortified and require no action. The table does not describe your cloud environment’s remediation status; the vendor’s statement does.
How to fix it
Self-managed deployments
- Record the installed Artifactory version on every node or instance. Use the version reported in the product’s administration interface or system information.
- Match that version to a branch in the table. If it is within a vulnerable range, schedule the upgrade to the fixed release for that branch.
- Check the live JFrog advisory for CVE-2026-82329 before the change window. Confirm that the branch and fixed version have not been revised.
- Take a backup of the Artifactory data and configuration according to your standard procedure before upgrading.
- Upgrade to the fixed release and confirm the new version on each instance, including any standby or replicated nodes.
- If any instance was reachable from untrusted networks while it ran a vulnerable version, move to the next section before you consider the incident closed.
JFrog Cloud
JFrog’s advisory says affected cloud environments have already been fortified and require no action. You do not need to upgrade a cloud-hosted instance on the basis of this CVE alone. If you also operate self-managed servers, treat those separately using the table above.

Can an empty signing key really give an attacker an admin token?
The vendor advisory confirms the vulnerability, its severity, and its impact. It does not describe the implementation in detail. The mechanism below comes from independent technical analysis by Fastly and a reproduction report by Pruva, and it should be read as their account rather than JFrog’s root-cause statement.
The core idea is simple. A signing key is only useful if it is secret and unpredictable. If the effective key is blank, anyone can know it, so a token signed with it can be forged. The analyses describe a blank default entry in an additional join-key setting that the server treated as trusted. An attacker who knows that predictable value could produce a cluster-join token without any valid credentials.

Step one: a service-scoped token
According to the analyses, the join flow can issue a service-scoped admin token. That is a token limited to a service context, and it is a distinct artifact from the platform-level credential described below. Treat it as the first stage of the chain, not the final result.
Step two: escalation to platform administration
Pruva’s reproduction report describes how the service-scoped token can be used in a further escalation to platform administration. Since this step is reported from a reproduction rather than in JFrog’s advisory, confirm your own exposure through the vendor’s guidance and your logs, not through the chain alone.

What the observed activity does and does not show
Fastly reported counts of attempts it observed on its own platform. Those figures are:
- Approximately 75,000 observed attempts on September 1, 2026
- Just above 171,000 observed attempts on September 2, 2026
- Around 406,000 observed attempts on September 3, 2026
These numbers describe attempts that Fastly saw. They are not a worldwide total, and they are not a count of successful compromises. Exploitation attempts and confirmed breaches are different measures, and the published figures do not establish how many affected systems were actually compromised.

Why administrator access to Artifactory is a supply-chain issue
An artifact repository stores the packages that builds, deployments and developers depend on. Administrator access to that system can allow an attacker to read or change stored packages, alter repository configuration, and affect the build pipelines that pull from it. The impact is therefore not limited to the Artifactory server itself. We cannot say whether any particular installation has been compromised. If you suspect unauthorized access, review the server logs for unexpected administrative activity, token issuance, and configuration changes, and bring in an incident-response team if the logs show anything unusual. That step is our recommendation, not a requirement stated by JFrog.
