Twitter’s navigation bar on Android is the row of quick-access tabs at the bottom of the app. If you use certain features more than others, customizing those tabs can cut taps and make daily scrolling more efficient.
This guide walks you through the current, reliable ways to customize the navigation bar on Twitter for Android, what to do when the option isn’t showing, and how to restore the default layout.

What you can customize in Twitter’s Android navigation bar
On Android, the main customization is the bottom navigation tab set and their order (for example, putting Notifications closer to the left, or moving Bookmarks out of the way). Exact availability can vary by app version and account features.
Most customization revolves around an Edit navigation bar flow inside Twitter’s Settings. If you’re looking for a fully free-form layout (like a completely different bottom row), Twitter doesn’t currently offer that level of control.

It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).

Prerequisites before you start
- Update Twitter to a recent version. Navigation customization options have been rolled out gradually, so an older build may not show the editor.
- Be signed in to the account you want to customize.
- Have stable internet. Some settings screens won’t finalize if the app is offline or stuck loading.
If you’re not sure whether you’re on the newest version: open the Google Play Store, search for Twitter, and tap Update if available.
Customize your navigation bar tabs on Android
Use the built-in Navigation settings inside the Twitter app. The labels may differ slightly depending on your region and Twitter app version, but the workflow is consistent.
Method 1: Edit navigation bar tabs from Settings
- Open the Twitter app on your Android phone.
- Tap your profile icon (or open the side menu).
- Go to Settings and privacy.
- Look for Navigation or Navigation bar.
- Select Edit navigation bar (or Customize navigation bar).
- Choose which tabs you want to show and which you want to hide.
- Reorder tabs by changing their position (often via a drag handle or an up/down option).
- Tap Done, Save, or Apply to confirm.
After you save, exit the Settings screen and verify the new bottom-row order immediately.
Method 2: Rearrange tabs from the Navigation settings screen
Some Twitter builds show tabs directly inside the Navigation screen without a separate edit button. If you see a list of tabs with toggles or ordering controls, use that.
- Open Twitter > Settings and privacy.
- Tap Navigation (or Navigation bar).
- In the tab list, toggle tabs On or Off to show/hide them.
- Use the provided reorder control to change the left-to-right order.
- Tap Save or Done.
If changes don’t apply, wait 10–20 seconds after tapping Save, then close the app fully and reopen it.
Understanding the tabs you can (and can’t) move
Twitter’s bottom navigation typically includes a core set of features. The app may allow you to reorder and show/hide most of them, but not every element is always customizable.

Common tab mappings
You’ll usually see a combination of these, depending on what Twitter offers in your app build:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Home
- Explore (or Search/Discover)
- Notifications
- Messages
- Bookmarks
- Profile
Names and icons can vary slightly, but the intent is the same: quick access to your most-used surfaces.
When some options won’t appear
If you don’t see a tab in the edit screen, common causes include:
- App rollout differences: Twitter features are sometimes enabled server-side.
- Regional or account eligibility: some layouts depend on account settings.
- Missing feature support: your build might not include the editor, even if you’re on the latest version.
Resetting to the default tab layout
If you don’t like your changes, the editor usually provides a reset option.
- Open Twitter > Settings and privacy.
- Go to Navigation / Navigation bar.
- Tap Reset (or Restore defaults).
- Confirm the reset action.
If there’s no reset button, reselect the standard tabs and order manually, then save.

Update the app and re-check
- Open Google Play Store.
- Search for Twitter.
- Tap Update if available.
- Open Twitter and immediately go back to Settings and privacy > Navigation.
Also check that you’re not using an old Twitter build installed from outside the Play Store. Those can miss server-side rollout features.
Clear cache, then retry
Cache issues can prevent settings screens from loading correctly.
- Open Android Settings.
- Tap Apps (or App management).
- Select Twitter.
- Tap Storage.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Reopen Twitter and check for the navigation editor again.
Avoid Clear data unless you’re comfortable signing back in, because it resets app storage.

If the app can’t sync your account settings, the customization page may not populate.
- In Twitter, open Settings and privacy.
- Go to Account > Log out.
- Close Twitter completely.
- Log back in and check the navigation editor.
Check device-level accessibility and overlays
Some accessibility features and screen overlay tools can cause UI elements to render incorrectly.
- Temporarily disable screen overlay apps (for example, chat heads or assistive floating controls).
- If you use accessibility shortcuts, test with them off.
Then reopen Twitter and navigate back to the Navigation settings screen.

Best practices for choosing a layout
Your goal is to minimize repeated taps. Start with the tabs you use multiple times per session, not what you check once a day.

If you share one phone with others, remember that navigation customization typically applies per account login, not per device.

If your Twitter build doesn’t include the navigation bar editor (or it’s hidden server-side), you can still reduce friction using built-in shortcuts.
Use in-app search and saved filters
Search is usually available from the main UI even when the tab layout can’t be edited. Use it to reach Explore-like discovery quickly.
Bookmark and use lists instead of extra tabs
If Bookmarks aren’t configurable for you, rely on the in-app bookmark workflow and access it through the feature entry points that remain available.
Keyboard/assistant gestures via launcher (limited)
Android launchers can sometimes offer gesture shortcuts, but they won’t replicate true in-app tab customization. Only use this if it helps you jump to Twitter features faster (for example, pinning Twitter to your dock for faster access).

FAQs
Why can’t I find Edit navigation bar in Twitter settings?
Most often it’s one of three things: you’re on an older Twitter version, the feature isn’t enabled for your account yet, or the settings UI didn’t load due to cache/sync issues. Update Twitter first, then clear cache and re-check.
Does navigation bar customization sync across devices?
In many cases, your tab preferences are account-based. However, behavior can vary by rollout. If you switch phones and the layout doesn’t match, confirm both devices are running the latest Twitter Android app and check the Navigation settings again.
Will clearing data remove my tweets or accounts?
Clearing Twitter app data generally logs you out and resets local app storage, but it doesn’t delete your tweets or account content. After clearing data, log back in and re-open the navigation settings.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

Twitter’s bottom navigation is the main customizable UI element on Android. The rest of the interface (like menus and internal screens) isn’t typically designed for deep customization by users.
Does the navigation bar customization work on older Android versions?
Customization depends on Twitter app support and server-side availability. If the editor option isn’t present, updating the Twitter app is usually the first fix. Android version alone isn’t the only factor.
Bottom Line
Customizing your Twitter navigation bar on Android is mostly about reordering and choosing the tabs you want at the bottom. Use Settings and privacy > Navigation and look for Edit navigation bar to make changes.
If that option doesn’t show up, update the app, clear Twitter’s cache, and sign out and back in. When customization still doesn’t appear, your best workaround is using in-app search and feature entry points until your account gets the navigation editor.
