TalkEsport reports that Counter-Strike 2 professionals gave hypothetical estimates ranging from one week to up to two years for reaching Tier 1 in VALORANT. Those answers are guesses about adaptation, not evidence that the players made the switch or reached that level.
What the CS2 players estimated
In a report published October 6, 2026, TalkEsport said ESL asked CS2 professionals during ESL Pro League how long they thought it would take them to become Tier 1 VALORANT players. The reported estimates were:

The longest estimate supplies the “within two years” framing; it is not a shared timeline or consensus among the players. TalkEsport also reports that apEX separately said he could become VALORANT’s best in-game leader within a year. That is a distinct role-specific claim, not the same as the six-month estimate for becoming a Tier 1 player.
Why might CS2 experience transfer?
TalkEsport points to fundamentals the games share, including five-versus-five tactical first-person-shooter play. Familiarity with aiming, positioning, communication and team coordination could help a CS2 player adjust. VALORANT also requires learning agents and their abilities, so the games are not interchangeable.

That explanation is a general argument about transferable skills, not a controlled comparison of how difficult the games are. The report does not establish that CS2 experience alone is enough to earn a place on a professional VALORANT roster.
What the estimates do—and do not—show
Three different outcomes should not be conflated: adapting to a new game, reaching a competitive tier, and securing a spot on a professional team. The reported answers address a hypothetical timeline for reaching Tier 1. They do not document completed transitions or prove that any named player achieved that level in VALORANT.

TalkEsport characterizes the responses as hypothetical and notes that some may have been sarcastic. It summarizes the answers rather than providing verified direct quotations, so the durations are best read as reported estimates, not measured results or promises. The report links an ESL video, but the estimates here are attributed to TalkEsport’s account of the answers.
