Before you qualify, find out who is eligible, which action counts, how and when the reward is credited, whether your funds must stay on the platform, and what can reduce or cancel the bonus. Those details vary by campaign and location; the label alone does not tell you the rules.
Start with the offer-specific terms, not the headline
“Promo code,” “new user incentive,” “referral bonus,” and “deposit match” describe broad offer types, not a standard set of requirements. The written terms for the particular campaign determine eligibility, qualifying actions, deadlines, reward form, withdrawal limits, and possible clawbacks. Coinbase says its offer terms can vary by region, customer, and campaign, and that the offer-specific terms govern if they conflict with the general incentive page: Coinbase offer terms.

Check eligibility and the qualifying action
Who can participate?
Look for requirements such as being a new customer, living in a supported region, holding a particular account type, completing identity verification, enrolling before a deadline, or meeting subscription conditions. Check exclusions and any one-reward-per-person or account limit. For example, a Kraken US campaign that ended December 4, 2025 required a new consumer account and KYC/AML verification, and limited the reward to one per person/account. Those were rules for that dated campaign, not a general Kraken policy: Kraken campaign rules.

What exactly counts?
Determine whether the trigger is a single purchase, several purchases, trading volume, a deposit, net deposits after withdrawals, or activity by a person you refer. Do not assume one kind of activity substitutes for another. Coinbase’s US “Buy $50 Crypto, Get Bitcoin” campaign page, as displayed on October 4, 2026, required one first purchase of at least US$50; several smaller purchases adding up to US$50 did not qualify for that specific offer: Coinbase campaign page.
In a separate Kraken US campaign ending December 4, 2025, the required action was at least US$100 in qualifying spot trades. Futures, margin, staking, and certain other activities were excluded. A deposit alone would not satisfy that campaign’s trading requirement. Read the exclusions on the offer you are considering rather than treating these examples as universal rules: Kraken campaign rules.

Understand the timeline from enrollment to withdrawal
Promotions can involve several different clocks. Identify the enrollment deadline, campaign dates, qualification window, reward-crediting delay, and any separate holding period. Completing the qualifying action does not necessarily mean the reward appears immediately or becomes available to withdraw.
- Qualification: When must you enroll or complete the required purchase, deposit, trade, or referral activity?
- Crediting: How long after the provider verifies eligibility should the reward arrive? Coinbase Help gives an approximately 45-day crediting period after qualification for some incentives, unless the specific terms say otherwise: Coinbase new-customer incentive terms.
- Holding or release: Is the reward held, released in installments, or subject to another restriction before it can be withdrawn or sent off-platform?
- Expiration: Is there a deadline to claim or use the reward, or a date when the campaign ends?
For comparison, the dated Kraken campaign above specified credit within 14 business days after eligibility and qualifying trades were verified. That timing applied to that campaign only. Coinbase Help also describes held bonus funds that cannot be withdrawn or transferred off-platform until released; the campaign terms control the actual restriction: Coinbase funding-bonus help.
Separate the reward amount from its form and later value
Check whether the advertised reward is a fixed amount, a variable amount, crypto, or a fiat-denominated value paid in crypto. If the reward is a digital asset, its market value can change after credit. Coinbase warns that a BTC reward may rise or fall in value, so the advertised dollar amount should not be mistaken for a guaranteed future cash value: Coinbase campaign page.
The same US Coinbase campaign page displayed on October 4, 2026 described randomized Bitcoin rewards from US$10 to US$2,000, stating that 99% of users receive US$10–US$100 and 1% receive US$1,000 or US$2,000. These figures describe that particular campaign page, not typical crypto bonuses or a promise of a specific payout. Its terms also determine how eligibility is checked and when any reward is valued: Coinbase campaign page.

Find out what happens if you withdraw or your balance falls
A qualifying deposit may be measured as a net amount rather than the amount you initially sent. Coinbase’s new-user incentive terms state: “Your qualifying deposit is measured on a net basis: withdrawals or outbound transfers made during the qualification period reduce the amount treated as a qualifying deposit.” In practical terms, moving funds out before the qualification window ends can lower the amount that counts, even if the original deposit met the advertised threshold: Coinbase new-customer incentive terms.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsDepending on the offer, a withdrawal or a drop below a required balance can mean a smaller qualifying amount, a withheld or denied reward, or a reward being revoked or recovered. Kraken’s deposit-match FAQ describes a reward hold and possible chargeback if withdrawals take the portfolio below the required qualifying net-deposit level. The exact balance test, measurement period, and consequence are offer-specific: Kraken deposit-match FAQ.

Also check whether closing or changing your account, using an incompatible promotion, or activity the provider considers prohibited can affect eligibility. A reward marked “credited” may still be locked: Coinbase explains that held bonus funds cannot be withdrawn or sent off-platform until they are released. Check the campaign’s release schedule and restrictions before counting the reward as spendable: Coinbase funding-bonus help.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Use this checklist before entering a code or qualifying
- Confirm eligibility: Check region, new-customer status, account type, verification, enrollment, exclusions, and any reward cap.
- Identify the exact trigger: Confirm whether the offer requires one purchase, cumulative activity, a deposit, net deposits, a particular trade, or a referral’s actions.
- Mark every deadline: Record the enrollment cutoff, qualification window, expected credit time, and any holding or release period.
- Check the money movement rules: Find out whether withdrawals or outbound transfers reduce the qualifying balance and whether a balance drop can trigger a clawback.
- Read the reward details: Note the asset, stated amount or range, valuation timing, and when the reward becomes transferable or withdrawable.
- Keep the controlling terms: Save the campaign rules shown at enrollment and check which terms govern if a general help page differs.
A useful comparison is to fill in these fields for each offer you are considering. “Not stated” means the terms you have should be checked further; do not fill a gap with an assumption.
| What to compare | Question to answer from the offer terms |
|---|---|
| Qualification | Which account, verification, enrollment, purchase, trade, deposit, or referral action is required? |
| Net amount | Do withdrawals during the qualification period reduce the qualifying amount? |
| Reward and valuation | Which asset or currency is paid, is the reward fixed or variable, and when is it valued? |
| Timing | What are the enrollment deadline, qualification window, credit delay, and holding or installment schedule? |
| Liquidity | When can the reward and any deposited funds be withdrawn or transferred off-platform? |
| Clawback | Which withdrawals, balance drops, or disqualifying actions can reduce or recover the reward? |
| Location and account | Which regions, customer types, account types, and verification statuses qualify? |
| Changes and governing terms | Can the provider amend or end the offer, and which offer-specific terms control? |
Why examples are not proof an offer is available now
Promotional pages change, and campaign rules can be tied to a specific country, customer group, and end date. The Coinbase figures and purchase threshold above come from a US campaign page displayed on October 4, 2026; the Kraken trade requirement and credit timing came from a US promotion that ended December 4, 2025. Neither example establishes what a reader can claim today. Check the live official offer and the terms presented for your own account before acting. Coinbase itself summarizes the variation this way: “Eligibility and terms vary by region, customer and campaign.”: Coinbase Funding Bonus Programme.
