Brazil does not have one exchange-wide deposit-verification checklist established by the official sources reviewed. Banco Central do Brasil (BCB) says Pix participants must check whether the holder details for a Pix key match CPF/CNPJ records at Receita Federal. That payment-system check is useful context for a deposit that fails, but it does not establish each exchange’s rules for accepting reais, requiring a same-name bank account, requesting documents, or reviewing a deposit.
To compare providers, check each exchange’s current official help pages and confirm the legal entity behind its Brazilian service in the BCB institution lookup. The available official guidance supports that method, but not a platform-by-platform list of current deposit requirements.

What Brazil’s Pix rules establish—and what they do not
BCB guidance says institutions participating in Pix must verify whether the holder details associated with a Pix key correspond to CPF/CNPJ records held by Receita Federal. BCB also says transactions may be analyzed and returned when there is founded suspicion of fraud. See BCB’s Pix guidance.
This is an identity-matching safeguard within Pix. It does not, by itself, prove that every crypto exchange requires the bank account sending a deposit to have the same legal name as the exchange customer. Nor does it specify what documents a particular exchange accepts when a deposit is held or rejected. Those are provider-specific questions.

How to compare an exchange’s deposit requirements
Use the same questions for every provider, and rely on its current official support material for the answers. If the help page does not state a policy, treat it as unknown rather than assuming the exchange follows another provider’s process.
- Check the supported payment method. Confirm whether the exchange currently accepts Pix, bank transfer, or another method for BRL deposits.
- Check whose account can send the money. Look for an explicit rule on whether the payment or bank account must be held in the verified customer’s legal name. Do not infer this solely from Pix identity matching.
- Check what identity details are compared. See whether the provider explains how it handles CPF/CNPJ or name mismatches between payment records and the exchange account.
- Find the remedy for a held or failed deposit. Look for the evidence the provider accepts, how to submit it, and whether funds are returned or can be credited after review.
- Record operational terms. Check any stated minimums, limits, review times, and return process. These terms can vary by payment rail and may change.
- Identify the local legal entity. Search the operator’s legal name in the BCB institution lookup rather than relying only on the exchange’s consumer-facing brand.
Without current official support pages for a named exchange, its same-name account rule, documentation requirements, limits, and processing times are not established here. Do not treat an absent or unclear help-page statement as proof that a requirement does—or does not—apply.

How to check the provider’s BCB status
BCB offers an official institution search for institutions it authorizes, regulates, or supervises. The lookup provides registration details and permitted operations. Search using the legal entity name shown in the exchange’s terms or disclosures; a brand name alone may not identify the operator.
BCB’s virtual-asset framework is set out in Resolution BCB 520/2025, which governs the constitution and operation of virtual-asset service providers and the provision of virtual-asset services by other institutions authorized by BCB. See Resolution BCB 520/2025. A status check is not a substitute for reading the exchange’s deposit instructions: the lookup answers questions about the legal entity and its permitted operations, not the detailed workflow for a particular BRL payment.

Do not confuse BRL deposits with crypto transfers or tax reporting
Funding an exchange through Pix or a bank transfer is different from sending crypto to or from a self-custody wallet. BCB describes controls for covered self-custody transfers that include identifying the wallet owner and documenting processes to verify the asset’s origin and destination. These requirements concern the relevant crypto-transfer context, not a general checklist for depositing reais. See BCB’s virtual-asset rules overview.
BCB’s 2026 regulatory update says the announced updated virtual-asset service rules and anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorist-financing changes enter into force on 1 October 2026, with some data-reporting provisions starting on 1 January 2027. It also describes specified Coaf reports for transfers to or from self-custody wallets at or above the equivalent of US$10,000. That threshold applies to the defined crypto-transfer reporting context; it is not a universal verification limit for ordinary BRL exchange deposits. Consult the BCB announcement for the scope and timing.

Receita Federal also maintains materials and instructions about reporting crypto-asset operations. Tax reporting is a separate matter from an exchange’s acceptance of a deposit or its identity-review process; consult Receita Federal’s crypto-asset information for that subject.

If a Pix deposit is held or rejected
- Check that the CPF/CNPJ and account-holder details used for the Pix key are accurate and consistent with the relevant Receita Federal record.
- Read the exchange’s current official instructions for failed or pending deposits, including its stated evidence, review route, and return procedure.
- Ask the provider to identify the specific mismatch or requirement affecting the transaction; Pix matching guidance alone does not reveal the exchange’s internal decision.
- Confirm the exchange’s legal operator through the BCB lookup if you need to verify which entity provides the service.
