Its reception is sharply split: reviewers praise Langevin and standout melodies, while questioning the rhythm section, production, or songwriting distinctiveness. It is most likely to appeal to listeners who want classic metal foundations rather than stylistic reinvention.
What kind of metal is Show No Fear?
Crimson Steel’s second album, Show No Fear, was released May 1, 2026, by Heaven and Hell Records. The band describes its sound as traditional heavy metal with a progressive edge; the label markets this edition as traditional power metal. Those are useful orientation points, not a precise genre boundary. Independent reviews place it variously around classic heavy metal and US power metal.
The label points fans toward Queensrÿche, Dio, Chastain, Hammerfall, and Judas Priest. The band’s own influence list also names Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Savatage, and Crimson Glory. The titles—among them “Dark Rider,” “Century Sword,” and “Show No Fear”—suggest a dramatic, sword-and-shadow atmosphere, but the album is presented first as a traditional metal record rather than a concept narrative.
Lineup, guest vocal, and track list
The core lineup is Tina Langevin on lead vocals, David Ryan on guitar and backing vocals, Joel McGee on bass and vocals, and Will Adkins on drums and backing vocals. James Rivera joins Langevin on “Bleed into One,” the album’s guest-vocal duet.

The official listing gives the opening track as “As Below, So Above”; some reviews reverse the phrase. The nine-track sequence is:
- “As Below, So Above”
- “Dark Rider”
- “No Absolution”
- “Purifier”
- “Final Phase”
- “Prelude to the Blade”
- “Century Sword”
- “Bleed into One”
- “Show No Fear”
“Prelude to the Blade” is an instrumental interlude, setting up the later stretch of the record. The label describes the CD edition as including an eight-page booklet with complete lyrics. Bandcamp offers the CD with a digital album, streaming through its app, and downloads up to 24-bit/44.1kHz; that download specification describes the files offered, not a guarantee about playback quality. See the official Bandcamp album page or Heaven and Hell Records’ CD page for current format and availability details.

What do the reviews say about the songs?
“Dark Rider” and the record’s traditional frame
Reviews discuss the album through its classic-metal riffs and vocal-led approach rather than a radical departure from the style. The Metal Crypt’s Sargon the Terrible calls the music stripped-down, praising Langevin’s charisma while finding the riffs basic and the songwriting insufficiently distinctive. That assessment makes the album’s familiarity a potential strength for genre loyalists and a limitation for listeners seeking more unusual arrangements.
“Century Sword” and melodic atmosphere
Dead Rhetoric’s Matt Coe singles out “Century Sword” for its atmosphere, alongside the record’s riffs and melodies. That emphasis illustrates the more favorable reading: the album’s appeal lies in classic-metal craft and memorable vocal-led moments, not novelty for its own sake.

“Bleed into One” and the duet
The guest pairing of Langevin and James Rivera is one of the most consistently noted moments, though the broader reviews disagree on the album. Pablo Rumel at The Nwothm regards the vocal pairing on “Bleed into One” as an emotional strength; Coe also highlights the performance. It is the clearest track to seek out if the combination of two distinctive metal voices is your main draw.
Why are reviewers divided?
The three published reviews do not form a single consensus. Their scores range from 3.5/5 to 8.5/10, reflecting different judgments of the same core ingredients:

| Review | Score | What the reviewer emphasizes |
|---|---|---|
| Pablo Rumel, The Nwothm, July 17, 2026 (review) | 6/10 | Praises Langevin’s vocal range and McGee’s bass work, but argues the rhythm guitars, drums, and mix weaken the songs; praises the “Bleed into One” vocal pairing. |
| Sargon the Terrible, The Metal Crypt, July 17, 2026 (review) | 3.5/5 | Finds Langevin charismatic, but considers the riffs basic and the songwriting insufficiently distinctive. |
| Matt Coe, Dead Rhetoric, September 30, 2026 (review) | 8.5/10 | Highlights Langevin’s upper range, the riffs and melodies, “Century Sword”’s atmosphere, and the duet with Rivera. |
The disagreement comes down to what carries more weight for each listener. Langevin’s vocal range and presence are a strong point in all three accounts, but the instrumental foundation draws sharper criticism: Rumel questions the tightness of the guitars and drums and the mix, while Sargon finds the riffs and songwriting too familiar. Coe’s higher score gives more weight to the performances, melodies, and atmosphere. A listener who prioritizes a polished, tightly locked rhythm section or unusually distinctive songwriting may share the reservations; one who values a strong lead voice and traditional metal character may be more persuaded by the favorable review.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is Show No Fear worth listening to?
It is a reasonable pick for fans of traditional heavy and power metal who want a vocal-forward record with classic references and are comfortable with familiar structures. Langevin’s performance and the Rivera duet are the most consistently identifiable draws, while “Century Sword” is the track Coe names for atmosphere.

Approach it more cautiously if you need forceful rhythmic precision, a particularly distinctive riff vocabulary, or a production that no reviewer questions. The critical spread is too wide to call the album an unqualified success or failure: your response will likely depend on whether the vocal and melodic strengths matter more to you than the concerns about execution and originality.
