The mod uses Steam P2P and a host-authoritative model. In practical terms, the host’s game acts as the source of truth for matters such as enemies, world interactions, and damage validation. The README says selected game state is synchronized between the two game instances; this is not the same as a built-in multiplayer campaign. These are the project’s own descriptions and have not been independently verified in live gameplay for this article.

The README says these features use verified offsets. That describes the maintainer’s current project status; it is not a guarantee that every feature works on every game build or mod combination.

What the mod cannot yet do reliably
The project documentation identifies important gaps that make it premature to treat this as a complete shared campaign. In particular, sending a host’s event or data is not enough: the receiving game must also know how to apply it.
- Quest progress: The receive-side implementation is still a stub. The README calls for further investigation of the quest manager.
- Cutscenes: The receive-side implementation is still a stub, and the project has not identified the relevant trigger function.
- World interactions: The receive-side implementation is still a stub, so the documentation does not establish that interactions reliably appear for both players.
- Fast travel: An opt-in hook can capture and broadcast the host’s waypoint, but applying that waypoint on the joining player’s side is still log-only; the native apply function has not been identified.
- Animation: Cross-model synchronization is incomplete. The default is passthrough, and experimental evaluator work does not yet resolve differences in animation IDs between character models.
- Mounts and dragon health: These areas are experimental or opt-in. Mount status may appear in the overlay, but the README says the remote companion’s visual mount representation is not synchronized.
The README notes that some features need more research or testing in a live process. Its status notes should be read as maintainer documentation, not as independent test results.
What you need to install and how to start
The README documents Windows 10 or 11 and the Steam version of Crimson Desert. It describes installation through either JSON Mod Manager or a manual ASI-loader installation, and says both players need the mod installed. Because installation details and compatibility can change with game patches, consult the project’s current README before installing or hosting.

- Check the current project instructions. Confirm that the README still lists your game build and installation method as supported.
- Install the mod on both PCs. Use the documented JSON Mod Manager route or follow the manual ASI-loader instructions. The README does not establish that one method is universally preferable.
- Have the host start a session in-game. The project documentation says to press F7, then invite the friend through Steam or share the host’s Steam ID.
- Join and check the overlay. The joining player takes over one of the supported companion characters. Press F8 to open the project’s overlay.
The README warns that other ASI mods which hook overlapping game functions can conflict. It lists compatibility with JSON Mod Manager, CDUMM, and most PAZ-based mods, but that maintainer-provided list is not a guarantee for every combination or current game version.
Does Crimson Desert have official multiplayer?
Pearl Abyss’s March 19, 2026 launch announcement listed Crimson Desert for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, Apple Mac, Epic Games Store, and ROG Xbox Ally. That platform list does not mean the community mod supports consoles: its README documents Windows and Steam requirements.
The cited launch announcement and Pearl Abyss’s June 2026 update-plan announcement do not announce an official co-op mode. The June update-plan coverage discusses updates, cross-save, and DLC. A later GamesRadar+ report says Pearl Abyss sees potential in expanding multiplayer, but describes it as a substantial technical undertaking involving server architecture, balance, cross-platform stability, and live-service operations. The report says the company’s immediate development priority was DLC and other pipelines. This is reported interest, not confirmation of a feature or release schedule.

Some older claims about multiplayer draw on a translated 2020 interview, years before release. In that interview, co-producer SeongWoo Lee described Macduff’s journey as single-player, with optional help from other players and multiplayer content, and said levels, items, and skills would be shared between modes. That is historical design context, not evidence that the released game has those modes. Lee said: “Macduff’s journey itself is single player. Of course, there are parts where you can get help from other players, but the bulk of this is single-player.”

If you try the project, treat it as an experimental community workaround rather than a dependable way to share the full story campaign. If you need synchronized quests, scenes, and world progression, the documentation does not establish that this mod provides them.
