Its announced workflow connects threat detection to investigation, risk prioritization, and response. Criminal IP’s October 6, 2026 announcement presents AITEM as its approach to ASM’s evolution; an earlier June announcement called it a conceptual framework. The company’s existing ASM service is available separately, but the announcements do not establish that every AITEM capability is generally available.
What is AITEM?
AITEM stands for AI-Powered Threat Exposure Management. Criminal IP presents it as a way to bring asset exposure, threat context, risk decisions, and response workflows together. The idea addresses a gap between discovering an exposed asset and deciding what to do about it: teams need to understand what is at risk, how relevant the threat is, and who should act.

In its October 6, 2026 announcement, Criminal IP describes AITEM as an evolution of ASM rather than simply a larger asset inventory. The company’s stated emphasis is on turning findings into contextual, actionable work. CEO Byungtak Kang said, “Seeing a threat and responding to it are completely different challenges.” That is the company’s framing, not an independently measured result. Read Criminal IP’s October announcement.
How does the announced AITEM workflow work?
Criminal IP describes four stages. They outline the company’s approach; the announcement does not provide independent testing of their effectiveness.
#1 Best Overall
Detect
Connect emerging threats and vulnerabilities to products, services, and assets in an organization’s environment. The announced scope includes external assets and internal infrastructure, as well as OSINT, dark-web data, Shadow AI, leaked data, and emerging vulnerabilities.
Investigate
Let security teams examine assets, exposures, vulnerabilities, and findings through natural-language queries, bringing related context together. Criminal IP says that context may include open ports, exposed services, vulnerabilities, connected infrastructure, abuse history, scanner activity, threat attribution, and malicious infrastructure.
Prioritize
Apply an organization’s own risk criteria alongside real-world exploitability and attacker activity, rather than relying only on generic vendor risk scores. This is the prioritization model Criminal IP describes; the announcement does not publish comparative results showing how it performs against other scoring methods.

Automate
Route prioritized findings into alerts, tickets, and workflow actions for the teams responsible for them. The announcement describes this as a response path, but does not establish that every integration or automated action is currently available.

What examples has Criminal IP given?
The June 11, 2026 announcement offered examples of how the conceptual framework might operate. They should be read as envisioned uses, not confirmation that each function is now offered.
- Use information in internal systems such as Slack, Confluence, Jira, and email to help identify asset owners.
- Map newly disclosed CVEs to live external assets.
- Look for unauthorized AI-tool use through firewall-log analysis and domain intelligence.
- Suggest mitigation paths or escalation tickets when immediate patching is not possible.
The examples illustrate the ambition to link external threat information with internal ownership and action. Criminal IP’s June announcement explicitly described AITEM as a conceptual framework.

Is AITEM available now?
Criminal IP’s official product page describes Criminal IP ASM as an existing web-based service. It lists continuous asset discovery, threat intelligence and risk context, vulnerability validation, alerts, and monitoring; it also describes manual registration and automatic detection options and invites prospective customers to request a demo. See the official Criminal IP ASM product page.
That product page does not establish that AITEM is a separately purchasable product or that all the capabilities in the AITEM announcements are generally available. The June announcement’s conceptual-framework wording and the October announcement’s description of an approach are important distinctions when evaluating what is currently offered.

How should security teams evaluate an ASM approach?
AITEM’s stated workflow suggests practical questions to ask when comparing exposure-management approaches. These are evaluation criteria, not published benchmark results or evidence that one vendor is superior.
- Discovery scope: Which external assets and internal environments can the service identify, and how are they kept current?
- Threat context: Does it connect assets to vulnerabilities, exploitability, attacker activity, and other relevant threat intelligence?
- Prioritization: Can teams apply their own risk criteria, and can they see what evidence supports a priority?
- Ownership and workflow: Can findings be connected to asset owners and routed into the organization’s ticketing or alerting processes?
- Availability: Which functions are live in the service being offered, and which are conceptual, planned, or dependent on integrations?
Kang also said, “The competition in ASM is no longer about who finds the most assets.” This is a vendor viewpoint about the market, not an independent finding about comparative performance. Criminal IP’s October announcement provides no named AITEM statistic on adoption, outcomes, market size, or effectiveness.
