Its documented components include a management platform, web-based Studio, identity agents and a React Native mobile wallet SDK. It supports credential issuance, presentation, verification and revocation workflows, but a standards-support claim alone does not prove that a particular deployment will interoperate securely or meet an organization’s needs.
What is CREDEBL?
CREDEBL describes itself as a population-scale, multi-tenant platform for managing decentralized identity and verifiable credentials. It is software for organizations building identity services, rather than a consumer identity app. The project characterizes the platform as agent-agnostic and ledger-agnostic, with support for different verifiable data registries, DID methods and credential formats. Its documentation presents the platform alongside a web Studio and mobile wallet SDK. CREDEBL CREDEBL documentation

The project connects its approach to W3C DID and verifiable credential specifications and work from the Decentralized Identity Foundation, Trust over IP Foundation, Hyperledger Indy and Aries open-source initiatives. These are technology and standards relationships; they do not, by themselves, certify that every combination of CREDEBL, wallet, issuer and verifier will work together.
How does CREDEBL work?
A typical credential exchange has three roles: an issuer creates and issues a credential, a holder stores it and presents it, and a verifier checks the resulting proof. CREDEBL’s documentation describes support for the associated lifecycle, including schemas, credential definitions, issuance, verification and revocation.

Schemas and definitions
A credential schema is a machine-readable template for the credential’s attributes and format. The documentation says issuer-specific credential definitions are associated with public verification keys; verifiers can use those definitions to check a proof’s origin and integrity. Implementers still need to establish how trust in issuers and their keys is governed in their own deployment.
Agents and deployment
CREDEBL says its agents use Aries protocol implementations in Credo and ACA-Py. It describes both shared and dedicated deployment options. The right arrangement depends on tenant isolation, operational responsibilities and the protocols required by participating organizations; those details should be verified for the intended deployment rather than inferred from the platform’s general description.

- POWERFUL SECURITY KEY: The Security Key C NFC is the essential physical passkey for protecting your digital life from phishing attacks. It ensures only you can access your accounts.
- WORKS WITH 1000+ ACCOUNTS: Compatible with Google, Microsoft, and Apple. A single Security Key C NFC secures 100 of your favorite accounts, including email, password managers, and more.
- FAST & CONVENIENT LOGIN: Plug in your Security Key C NFC via USB-C and tap it, or tap it against your phone (NFC) to authenticate. No batteries, no internet connection, and no extra fees required.
- TRUSTED PASSKEY TECHNOLOGY: Uses the latest passkey standards (FIDO2/WebAuthn & FIDO U2F) but does not support One-Time Passwords. For complex needs, check out the YubiKey 5 Series.
- BUILT TO LAST: Made from tough, waterproof, and crush-resistant materials. Manufactured in Sweden and programmed in the USA with the highest security standards.
Holder wallets
The React Native SDK is intended to add holder-wallet capabilities to a new or existing mobile application, including credential storage and proof presentation. A wallet built with the SDK is one part of the system: evaluators should test the complete exchange with the intended issuer and verifier, including credential profiles, recovery and the handling of holder data.
Which DID methods and credential formats does CREDEBL support?
CREDEBL documentation lists AnonCreds and W3C JSON-LD credential formats. Its mobile SDK materials identify did:indy, did:polygon, did:web and did:key. The platform overview also describes Indy and Polygon ledger options, as well as ledger-less issuance using did:web, did:key and did:peer. These are documented support claims, not a guarantee that every format and method is available in every configuration or interoperable with every external system. Confirm the precise profile and version combinations with CREDEBL and the organizations that will issue, hold or verify credentials.
W3C DID Core defines DID syntax, a common data model, core properties, representations and operations, including DID resolution. It is a W3C Recommendation. As the W3C DID Core specification notes, “W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) recommends the wide deployment of this specification as a standard for the Web.” Conformance to a common standard does not remove differences between DID methods, credential profiles or implementation choices, so it is not sufficient evidence of end-to-end interoperability.
Can CREDEBL work without a blockchain?
CREDEBL’s documentation describes ledger-less issuance using did:web, did:key and did:peer, so its stated approach is not limited to blockchain-backed registries. Whether a ledger-less method is appropriate depends on the deployment’s trust model, discovery and key-management requirements, and how issuers and verifiers will validate credentials. Compare those requirements with the available registry and DID-method choices before settling on an architecture.

Is CREDEBL used for national digital identity?
CREDEBL says it serves as the protocol layer for Bhutan’s National Digital Identity initiative. It also says it powered a Digi Yatra Foundation proof of concept for international digital travel credentials during IATA Contactless PoC technical trials involving IndiGo Airlines, SITA and BLR Airport, and identifies Sovio as a platform built on CREDEBL. These are project-reported descriptions; they do not independently establish results, current deployment scale or suitability for another public-service program. CREDEBL project information

- Cost and performance: Obtain deployment-specific pricing and performance evidence. The reviewed sources do not establish pricing or independent performance testing.
CREDEBL is worth evaluating when an organization wants open-source infrastructure for a DID and credential workflow and can validate the exact integrations and operational responsibilities involved. The project’s standards and implementation descriptions are useful starting points; adoption decisions should rest on deployment-specific compatibility, governance, privacy, security and operational evidence.
