Reset all camera settings on the EOS 70D
The EOS 70D manual says the general reset is available in Creative Zone modes. Use the camera’s menu buttons and the following sequence:

- Set the Mode Dial to a Creative Zone mode.
- Open the menu and go to the Setup 4 tab.
- Select Clear settings.
- Select Clear all camera settings.
- Choose OK to confirm.

Clear Custom Functions separately
If you want to restore the camera’s Custom Function settings, use Clear all Custom Func. (C.Fn) from the camera’s Clear settings options. This is a separate operation from clearing all camera settings, so perform it only if you intend to reset those functions.

Custom Controls are not included
The manual states that Custom Controls remain unchanged when Custom Functions are cleared. If a button or dial still behaves according to a personalized assignment afterward, review the Custom Controls settings themselves; clearing C.Fn does not remove those assignments.
If the reset option is unavailable or the problem remains
Check the shooting mode
The manual specifies Creative Zone modes for the general reset. If Clear all camera settings is unavailable, switch the Mode Dial to a Creative Zone mode and check Setup 4 again.

Know what a settings reset can—and cannot—fix
A settings reset restores settings; it is not a repair for a persistent error, power problem, memory-card issue, or other hardware fault. Canon Japan’s EOS 70D diagnosis page says the model’s repairable service period has ended in Japan. Service availability varies by region, so check Canon support for your country if you suspect a fault: Canon Japan EOS 70D repair diagnosis.

A settings reset is not a firmware update
You do not need to update firmware to reset the camera’s settings. Canon Japan’s firmware page identifies EOS 70D firmware version 1.1.3 and is dated November 21, 2019. Firmware installation is a separate procedure; Canon warns that loss of power during an update can leave the camera unable to power on. Do not begin a firmware update unless you have a separate reason to do so and can follow Canon’s instructions: Canon Japan EOS 70D firmware page.
