Use Playwright to open each marketplace URL, wait for the page to render, and save either the visible viewport, a product-card element, or the full page as an image. The key decisions are what area to capture, what format and resolution you need, and how to keep the browser state consistent across runs.
Set up a repeatable Node.js capture
This example captures the visible viewport of each URL in a JSON input file and writes one PNG per URL. It uses a fresh browser context for each run and waits for the page load event; marketplace pages may continue rendering content after that point, so adjust readiness handling for the specific site.

Install Playwright

Choose the capture area and image settings
“Thumbnail” can mean different things. Select the smallest scope that contains the information you need; a full page can be a tall document rather than a compact thumbnail.

Capture one product card
After navigation, wait for a stable selector that actually appears on the target page, then capture its locator. For example, add this in place of the page screenshot call, using a real selector discovered for that site:

A selector can change when the marketplace redesigns its page, so validate it when the capture fails or returns the wrong item.
Wait for images and dynamic content
The load event does not guarantee that lazy-loaded product images, client-rendered prices, or other late content have settled. Prefer a site-specific readiness signal when possible:

A fixed delay can be used for a known rendering lag, but it is less reliable than waiting for the content you need.
Format, viewport, and resolution

Use PNG when you want lossless capture; JPEG can reduce file size for photographic content; WebP may suit downstream systems that accept it. Playwright supports PNG, JPEG, and WebP in its screenshot tooling.

Set the viewport in CSS pixels through the browser context, as in the example. Use device-scale rendering deliberately: CSS scale targets CSS-pixel output, while device scale produces higher-resolution output according to the device pixel ratio. Playwright’s screenshot tooling documents this distinction.

Use unique output names. The loop’s zero-padded index prevents overwriting files, but mapping names to URL identifiers can make later auditing easier. Avoid putting raw URLs in filenames because URL characters may be invalid or unwieldy.

Make captures consistent and handle marketplace access responsibly
Screenshot pixels can vary with the host operating system, browser version, browser settings, hardware, power state, and headless mode. Keep the Playwright and browser versions, viewport, device scale, locale, and other relevant context settings fixed when comparing images across runs. Playwright explains these sources of variation in its Visual comparisons guidance.
A successful browser navigation does not establish that automated capture is permitted. The available sources do not establish a current, universal automated-capture policy for Amazon India, Flipkart, or every other marketplace. Check the current terms and technical access rules for each marketplace before deploying a recurring or bulk capture job.
Do not confuse a page thumbnail with a seller product image
A screenshot for internal review, documentation, or comparison is different from an image uploaded as product photography. It may include prices, badges, page text, navigation, or other content that seller image rules do not allow.
For Amazon India seller-upload images specifically, Amazon Seller Central says the main image appears in search and browse and is the first image on the product detail page. Its guidance accepts JPEG, TIFF, PNG, and non-animated GIF, recommends JPEG, sets the longest side at 500 to 10,000 pixels, recommends 1,000 pixels or more for customer experience, and says images below 500 pixels on the longest side cannot be uploaded. It also says the product should occupy 85% of the image, be shown fully, and appear only once; it restricts text, pricing, customer-review imagery, seller-specific information, and Amazon marks, subject to limited exceptions such as swatch images. These are Amazon India seller-image requirements, not general specifications for screenshot thumbnails. See Amazon India product image requirements.

Troubleshoot common failures

Browser executable missing: install the browser with
npx playwright install chromiumfor the installed Playwright version. -
Navigation times out: the page may be slow or keep connections open. Confirm the URL is reachable in the capture environment, consider a larger timeout, and use a meaningful readiness selector rather than requiring every background request to stop.

Screenshot is blank or missing product content: wait for the actual product image or card to become visible. The page load event alone may precede lazy image loading or client-side rendering.

Element locator times out: verify the selector against the current page and ensure it is not behind a dialog or absent for that URL. Marketplace page structures are not guaranteed to stay fixed.

Files overwrite each other: use a unique index or stable per-item identifier in every output path.

Images differ between machines: pin browser/runtime versions and context settings; host and rendering conditions can affect screenshots.

Access denied or bot challenge: do not treat an error or challenge page as the intended thumbnail, and do not assume automated access is allowed. Review that marketplace’s current rules and use an authorized access method.
