What you need before installing
- A Minecraft Java Edition account and a launcher or profile manager capable of installing the official CurseForge pack.

1. Select the matching server release
Open the project’s official CurseForge Files page and locate the CCA SERVER entry that matches the client pack you intend to distribute. The listing identifies CCA SERVER 10 for Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge. Earlier entries remain available, but an older archive should be used only when the clients are deliberately pinned to that same release.

2. Create a clean directory
Make a new directory dedicated to this server. Do not place the files in an existing vanilla world directory or in the launcher’s client-profile folder. A separate directory makes backups, upgrades, permissions, and rollback much easier to manage.
3. Install NeoForge for Minecraft 1.21.1
Download the NeoForge installer that targets Minecraft 1.21.1 and run its server-install option for the clean directory. The installer revision determines the generated scripts and JVM argument files, so retain the files it creates rather than replacing them with a command copied from an unrelated NeoForge version.
4. Extract the server pack
Extract the matching CCA SERVER archive into the server directory. Preserve its directory structure. Do not combine individual files from CCA SERVER 9, CCA SERVER 10, or a different client profile unless the pack author explicitly documents that combination.

5. Perform the first start
Run the launch script generated by the NeoForge installation. The first start may create configuration directories, a world directory, an EULA file, and other runtime files. The exact script name and JVM argument layout vary by installer revision; use the script present in your downloaded directory instead of guessing a command.
6. Read and accept the EULA
Stop the process if it creates an EULA file and read the terms. Accept them only if you agree, then make the required EULA setting in the generated file and start the server again. If no EULA file appears, inspect the console output for a Java, permission, or path error before changing settings.
7. Configure server.properties
After the first successful generation, edit server.properties with a text editor while the server is stopped. Set the values appropriate for your group, including:

- Server name or MOTD: identify the AERO SMP instance or private community.
- Game mode and difficulty: choose the rules your players expect before they begin a shared colony.
- Whitelist: enable it for a private server and add player names through the server console or the administration method you use.
- View distance: balance exploration visibility against CPU and memory use; no official value is prescribed for this pack.
- Port: retain the default unless your host or network requires another port, and ensure the firewall and hosting panel use the same value.
Change one group of settings at a time and keep a copy of the original file. A typo can prevent startup or make the server appear unreachable.

Use the generated NeoForge launch script for subsequent starts. Watch the console until the server reports that it is ready for connections. Keep the console output from the first successful launch; it provides useful evidence when diagnosing a later update or mod mismatch.
Connect players without version errors
- Distribute the exact Create Colonies – AERONAUTICS client release used for the server.
- Tell players to verify Minecraft 1.21.1 and NeoForge in their profile before launching.
- Give them the server address and port only after the server is running and reachable on your network or host.
- Have the first player connect while you watch the server console. A successful login confirms that the client profile, loader, server files, and network path agree.
Common handshake failures include missing-mod messages, registry errors, and immediate disconnects. Treat those as compatibility problems first: compare the client profile release, Minecraft version, NeoForge version, and CCA SERVER archive before changing gameplay settings.

What to back up
- The entire world directory, including the colony and aircraft progression data.
- The
configdirectory and any pack-specific data directories created by the server. - The server properties, whitelist, operator list, and launch configuration.
- A text record of the client pack release, CCA SERVER release, Minecraft version, and NeoForge installer version.
Stop the server before making a file-level backup so region and configuration files are not being written during the copy. Keep at least one backup away from the live server directory.
Safe update procedure
- Announce maintenance and stop the server cleanly.
- Make a complete backup of the world, configuration, and pack-specific data.
- Copy the backup to a test directory and apply the proposed client and server update there.
- Start the test server and check that the world loads, colonies remain present, and the console shows no missing-mod or registry errors.
- Give testers the corresponding client profile and verify a connection.
- Only then update the production directory, retaining the previous archive and backup for rollback.
Do not assume that a newer client profile can use an older server archive. Pack updates can change mods, registries, configuration formats, or world data. A documented release pairing is safer than selectively replacing a few files.
