If cancellation is still available, cancel there; if the parcel has moved beyond that stage, request a return or exchange instead. A return is not the same as an immediate refund: pickup and inspection generally come first, and the payment method affects when the money or credit appears.
The rules below reflect Coupang’s Korean-language FAQs published in July 2026. Eligibility and fees can vary by item and seller, so use the terms on the listing and the estimate shown in your order flow for a live case.

Should you cancel the order or request a return?
Open My Coupang → order list or delivery tracking → select the item. If the order-cancellation control is available, use it. Coupang says a missing cancellation button usually means the shipment has passed the cancellation stage; use the exchange/return controls instead. For a delayed parcel, check the delivery estimate displayed in the order. Coupang’s cancellation and return FAQ explains these routes.

Use order cancellation if Coupang still offers it. The available control in the order is the practical indicator of whether cancellation remains possible.

If the parcel has shipped or arrived
If the parcel is still in transit after cancellation, Coupang says you can refuse delivery. If it arrives and you accept it, contact Coupang or the seller to arrange collection or payment handling. Rocket Fresh orders generally cannot be canceled after dispatch; use the post-delivery route, bearing in mind that fresh, chilled, and frozen items may be excluded from change-of-mind returns.
If it is a seller-shipped order
Seller-shipped items may have seller-specific instructions. Find the seller contact and delivery, exchange, and return details on the item page or in the order list. Follow any stated collection or carrier instructions.
How long do you have to return a Coupang order?
Coupang’s July 2026 FAQ gives different general change-of-mind periods by fulfillment category. These are not one universal deadline, and item-specific conditions can apply. Check Coupang’s return and exchange FAQ and the terms attached to the item.

If the item is defective, damaged, misdescribed, or wrong
For a discrepancy from the description or advertising, product defect or damage, or wrong delivery attributable to the seller, Coupang’s FAQ states a claim window of within 3 months after receipt, or within 30 days after you knew or could have known about the issue. This is Coupang’s summary of its handling window, not a substitute for legal advice. Report the problem through the order flow and check the item’s specific conditions.
When a return may be restricted
Coupang lists possible restrictions such as made-to-order goods once production has begun, reduced value from use or passage of time, and sets with missing or used components or customer-caused damage or contamination. A free-return label may waive change-of-mind shipping charges, but does not necessarily remove other item restrictions.
Who pays the return shipping cost?
For a return or exchange because of a product or delivery problem, Coupang says the customer is not charged. For a change of mind, return or exchange fees may apply. Check the estimated refund in the request screen before submitting; it is more relevant to your order than a general fee figure.

Extra considerations for seller-shipped items
For seller-shipped goods already in transit, Coupang says the initial outbound shipping charge and return shipping may be deducted. The amount depends on the seller and product; additional payment may sometimes be requested. Island or rural delivery, installation products, and seller-direct delivery can add costs, so do not assume one standard fee.

If you already sent it using another carrier, Coupang’s FAQ says to contact support with the tracking number rather than submitting the usual in-app return request.
What happens after you submit a return?
- Submit the request: In My Coupang, open the order and choose the exchange/return option. Review the reason and the displayed estimated refund or cost.
- Make the item available for pickup: Follow the collection instructions and check the pickup date shown for the order. Pickup timing varies by fulfillment and product type.
- Track collection and inspection: Follow the order’s cancellation/return/exchange/refund history. Coupang says the collected return usually reaches the seller in about 1–2 business days; this is a general estimate, not a guaranteed delivery time.
- Wait for cancellation and refund processing: After inspection, if no issue is found, the purchase is canceled and Coupang notifies you. Then check the expected date and status in the order history.
Coupang warns that weather, holidays, carrier closures, and workload can delay pickup. The pickup date displayed in your account is more useful than assuming a single collection schedule.

When will the refund arrive?
Coupang says the time from return to refund varies by seller and payment method. The following are the general intervals in its July 2026 FAQ, after the return is approved and cancellation is complete; exceptions can occur. See Coupang’s refund FAQ for its payment-specific guidance.

Card purchases are refunded by canceling the charge on the card originally used, rather than by sending the money through another method. If the order status is unclear, check whether pickup and inspection have completed before judging the payment provider’s timing.
How to resolve common return and refund problems
The scheduled pickup date passed, but no one collected the item
Check the pickup date and current status in My Coupang. Coupang says collection timing varies and can shift because of weather, holidays, carrier closures, or workload. If the status does not explain the delay, contact Coupang through its customer-service channel with the order details.

The refund account was rejected
Use a bank account in the buyer’s own name. Coupang does not allow another person’s account for this refund flow.
The cancellation button is missing
This usually indicates the order is past the cancellation point. Open the item’s order page and submit an exchange or return request if eligible.
The order shipped after cancellation
If delivery is pending, refuse the parcel. If you accepted it, contact Coupang or the seller to arrange collection or payment handling rather than keeping the item without resolving the order.
The order was a gift
Coupang’s return and exchange FAQ directs gift recipients to contact Coupang customer service.
You sent a seller return with a different carrier
Contact Coupang support and provide the tracking number. Coupang’s FAQ says not to submit the usual in-app return request in this situation.
What to check before you submit
- Confirm the order category and whether the item is seller-shipped.
- Choose the correct reason: change of mind and a product or delivery problem have different fee and eligibility rules.
- Check the item page’s delivery, exchange, and return terms for special restrictions or seller instructions.
- Review the estimated refund and any return-cost deduction displayed in the request flow.
- After pickup, follow the order’s return and refund history through inspection, cancellation, and payment processing.
