Its main caveat is that navigation means following a route rather than receiving turn-by-turn directions. It is also no longer COROS’s newest option: the 46 mm APEX 4 succeeded it. Whether the APEX 2 Pro is a smart buy now depends on its actual price where you live, the GPS mode you use and whether its route tools meet your needs.
What the APEX 2 Pro is—and who it suits
The APEX 2 Pro is an outdoor GPS training watch for runners, hikers and other athletes who value activity tracking, route following and endurance over smartwatch-style features. COROS lists a 1.3-inch sapphire-glass screen, a grade 5 titanium-alloy bezel, 5 ATM water resistance, a digital dial designed to work with gloves, and support for all five major satellite systems. The Pro supports dual-frequency GNSS. Its band and charging cable are included. See COROS’s APEX 2 and APEX 2 Pro product page.

Battery life depends on the GPS mode
COROS’s current battery table gives estimated runtimes, not guaranteed results. Its February 2024 heart-rate algorithm and small GPS firmware changes revised the APEX 2 Pro estimates downward. The current figures are therefore the ones to use when planning a long outing, rather than the older 75-hour claim sometimes repeated for Standard Full GPS.

| Use or GPS mode | COROS estimate for APEX 2 Pro |
|---|---|
| Daily use, Daily Stress enabled | 21 days |
| Daily use, Daily Stress disabled | 24 days |
| Standard Full GPS | 66 hours |
| All Systems On | 41 hours |
| Dual Frequency | 24 hours |
| Standard Full GPS with music | 32 hours |
| All Systems On with music | 15 hours |
| Dual Frequency with music | 12 hours |
These are COROS’s estimates in its Battery Specifications. COROS notes that sleep tracking affects daily-use estimates. For an outing, choose the row that matches both your satellite mode and whether you play music; the most precise mode has a substantially shorter estimate than Standard Full GPS.
For context, COROS’s table shows that the pre-February 2024 Standard Full GPS estimate was 75 hours, compared with 66 hours now. The older figure is historical, not the current estimate. The revision followed a heart-rate measurement algorithm update intended to improve wrist-based heart-rate accuracy, along with small GPS firmware changes.

Maps help with route following, not turn-by-turn navigation
COROS provides free global offline maps for the APEX 2 Pro. In its December 2025 update, the company said maps on the APEX 2 and APEX 2 Pro gained detail that distinguishes roads and trails by color and line style. That can make an offline map easier to interpret, but a map is not the same as guided directions.

Cycling Weekly’s 2026 review says the watch can follow a GPX trace but does not provide turn-by-turn directions. If you need prompts at each junction, that distinction may be decisive. COROS has continued adding software features in release notes, including group tracking, Strava Live Segments, Safety Alerts and voice alerts; Safety Alerts require a phone and cellular signal. Check the APEX 2 Pro release notes for feature details and availability.

What independent testing says
Cycling Weekly included the APEX 2 Pro in its 2026 tested smartwatch guide. Its tester compared wrist heart-rate readings with a chest strap and described the results as accurate in that test. The publication also noted long battery life, easy setup and customization, and a variety of activity options. These are that publication’s observations, not a guarantee that every wearer will get the same heart-rate readings or runtime. Cycling Weekly lists bulk and lack of ANT+ as drawbacks. See its 2026 cycling smartwatch guide.
How it compares with the newer APEX 4
Tom’s Guide’s 2025 APEX 4 review identifies the 46 mm APEX 4 as the successor to the APEX 2 Pro. It reports an October 15, 2025 launch and historical launch prices of $479 and £429 for that APEX 4 model; those are not current prices, and the review’s testing applies to the APEX 4, not the APEX 2 Pro. Consult the Tom’s Guide APEX 4 review for its coverage.

There is no verified current price or stock information here for either watch. Before choosing, compare the actual local APEX 2 Pro price with the current APEX 4 price and availability. A lower price on the older model is useful only if its navigation limits, size and connectivity suit your needs.
- Consider the APEX 2 Pro if offline maps, GPX route following, dual-frequency GNSS and a sapphire-and-titanium build are priorities, and its price is meaningfully lower than the current successor.
- Look at the APEX 4 or another watch if buying the newer generation matters more than finding a deal on the older model; compare current local pricing and features directly.
- Choose a different fit if you require turn-by-turn directions or ANT+ sensor support, since Cycling Weekly reports the APEX 2 Pro lacks both.
Verdict
The COROS APEX 2 Pro still makes sense as an outdoor GPS training watch when its offline maps, route following, rugged materials and battery estimates align with your activities. Its strongest practical qualification is battery-mode trade-off: COROS estimates 66 hours in Standard Full GPS but 24 hours in Dual Frequency, with music lowering those figures further. Treat the map feature as offline route support, not turn-by-turn guidance, and judge the model against the newer APEX 4 using current local prices rather than its historical launch price.
