Copy a Google Docs Table: Select the Table or Cells You Need

Use Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V on Windows or ChromeOS, or Command+C and Command+V on Mac. Google Docs does not document a dedicated whole-table selection command, so check a full-table copy carefully.

To copy a table in Google Docs on a computer, select the table or the cells you need, press Ctrl+C on Windows or ChromeOS or Command+C on Mac, then paste with the matching Ctrl+V or Command+V. Google’s official help documents the clipboard shortcuts and table editing, but not a dedicated command to select an entire table. For a full-table copy, a Google Product Expert volunteer described a workaround involving the blank lines above and below the table; it is older community guidance, so check the result rather than relying on it blindly.

Copy a table on a computer

  1. Open the Google Docs document and scroll to the table.

Workaround for selecting the whole table

In an April 9, 2020 Google Docs Editors Community discussion, Jo S. Diamond, identified as a Google Product Expert Volunteer and not a Google employee, suggested selecting the blank line immediately before and after a table along with the table, then copying it. The reply said Docs did not have a “select > table” option at that time. This is dated community guidance, not an official or verified description of the current interface, and the method may behave differently across documents. If the table does not copy cleanly, undo the paste and try selecting the table contents another way or use a computer’s current Docs controls. Read the community discussion.

Copy only selected cells

When you need only part of a table, select the relevant cells or range using Docs’ table-selection controls, then use the same copy and paste shortcuts. Google’s table help covers cell selection and editing; its keyboard reference includes table navigation shortcuts, but does not list a shortcut for selecting an entire table. Copying from the mobile app

Google’s iPhone and iPad table instructions describe adding and editing tables, but the retrieved guidance does not establish a complete, reliable procedure for selecting and copying a whole table. Google Docs table help for iPhone and iPad If you use a phone or tablet, follow the app’s current selection controls cautiously and verify the pasted result; switch to a computer if you need the documented keyboard-shortcut workflow. The cited mobile instructions do not establish a whole-table copy procedure for Android either.
