To choose which apps stay open as you fold your Galaxy Z Fold8, go to Settings > Display > Continue apps on cover screen and select the apps you want to continue on the cover display. The setting applies to compatible apps; it does not guarantee that every app will keep the same layout or exact screen state.
Choose apps to continue on the cover screen
- Open Settings.
- Tap Display.
- Tap Continue apps on cover screen.
- Select the apps you want to continue when you fold the phone.
- Open a selected app on the main screen, then fold the phone to check how it behaves on the cover display.
Samsung documents this setting as a way to let compatible apps remain open on the cover display after folding. The menu label or its availability can vary by software version or region. If you cannot find it at that path, search Settings for Continue apps on cover screen. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 support page describes the feature.

What to expect when an app continues
App continuity depends on the app. Some apps may not fully support it, so an app might stop, restart, or change its layout when the display changes. Samsung Developer guidance explains that foldable apps should adapt to the main and cover displays while preserving the user’s task, but that guidance is not a guarantee that every app will retain its exact state. - If an app behaves differently than expected, check its own update or support information.
- Samsung’s reviewed support materials do not provide a complete current list of third-party apps that support continuity on Fold8, so test the apps you rely on rather than assuming compatibility.
Do not use Flex mode for app continuity
Flex mode is a separate feature and is not supported on the Galaxy Z Fold8, according to Samsung’s Fold8 support information. For choosing apps to continue on the cover display, use the setting above instead.
