Start the Unknown Taxi challenge at the payphone
The Unknown Taxi is part of The Last Taxi side story, on the island associated with the Patterned Evac Building. Enter the area, follow the objective marker into the alley, and interact with the payphone. Choose Find a cab and get in

Use the portable light to identify the correct taxi
- Pick up the light. It is on the street near the intersection. Carry it to the candidate cars.
- Place it to cast a clear shadow. Aim the beam so the car’s silhouette appears on the wall, where you can inspect its shape.
- Choose by silhouette. In the first round, select the vehicle whose shadow has the body shape of a taxi. Decoys can cast silhouettes resembling other vehicles; GamesRadar gives an industrial digger as an example.
- Repeat for the next candidates. The challenge can return Dylan to the beginning of the street after early selections. Retrieve the light and use it again on the remaining cars.
- In the final round, inspect the roofline. The candidates may all look taxi-shaped in shadow. Choose the one whose shadow also shows the rectangular bump of the roof sign.
GamesRadar reports that a correct choice triggers a green-light cinematic, while a wrong choice triggers a red-light cinematic. Use that response as confirmation rather than relying on a remembered taxi position.
Why there is no dependable taxi order
One walkthrough gives position-based examples: a yellow cab across from the SPACE FOR RENT building, followed by cabs farther along the right sidewalk. Other guides focus on the shadow clue and warn that the correct vehicle may not match a pictured example. These accounts differ in emphasis, so the position sequence is best treated as an example from that walkthrough—not a universal order for every attempt. If the cars appear in a different arrangement, ignore the left/right sequence and compare their projected silhouettes. The vehicle body identifies the taxi in the first round; the roof-sign bump distinguishes the correct cab in the final round.
