Plan for about 25–35 hours to finish CONTROL Resonant’s main story. Remedy gives that range as a developer estimate; lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov separately puts the core experience at around 30 hours. If you aim for completionist play, estimates rise to roughly 40–50 hours, but no source defines a universal 100% checklist or guarantees a particular finish time.
How long is CONTROL Resonant’s main story?
Remedy Communications Director Thomas Puha says the main story takes anywhere from 25 to 35 hours. That is Remedy’s planning estimate, not a measured average across players. PlayStation.Blog published the estimate on September 15, 2026.

In a separate interview, lead gameplay designer Sergey Mohov described the “core experience” as around 30 hours. The two figures broadly align: 30 hours is a useful midpoint, while 25–35 hours better reflects the range Remedy gives. Your time can vary with pace, exploration, and combat retries.

Mohov estimated that completionist play would fall in the “50 hours” ballpark. A post-launch Beebom report gives a 40–50-hour completionist estimate. These are approximate figures, and the sources do not establish a standardized set of tasks that every player must complete to count as a completionist.

How do reported playthroughs compare?
Beebom says its own first playthrough of the main campaign took 27–30 hours, and puts the main campaign with mild exploration at 30–35 hours. Those are that outlet’s reported results, not a universal benchmark or a precise measure of all side content. PC Gamer’s reviewer reported playing for more than 30 hours; that is also an individual review experience, not a population statistic.
| Scope | Time estimate | What the figure represents |

These figures should be treated as planning estimates, not exact promises. The available figures do not provide a comparable cross-player average, and they distinguish different scopes of play.

Do you need to play the first Control?
No. Mohov told TechRadar, “I don’t think you have to play the first Control game to play Resonant,” and said a recap is available at the top of Resonant’s main menu. Playing the original can still enrich the narrative experience, but the developer’s guidance is that it is not required to start the sequel.
