Match your PC to a performance target
Compare your CPU, GPU, and graphics memory (VRAM) with the profile for the resolution and rendering features you want. The table gives Remedy’s published targets, not independently verified minimums for every scene. Common requirements across the profiles are Windows 10 or Windows 11 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, and a 120 GB SSD. Remedy explicitly requires an SSD. Steam corroborates the operating system, RAM, storage, and SSD requirements.

All profile settings and hardware targets are from Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant PC requirements. Remedy cautions that meeting a profile does not guarantee identical performance in every area or configuration, so treat the rows as starting targets rather than promised results.
Best starting settings by target
For 1440p at 60 FPS without ray tracing
Begin with Medium graphics and Balanced upscaling, Remedy’s recommended non-ray-tracing profile. Its listed GPU tier is an RTX 3060 Ti, RX 6700 XT, or Intel Arc B580, paired with a Core i7-10700 or Ryzen 7 3700X and 8 GB VRAM. If your system differs, the profile still gives you a sensible reference point, but it does not predict an exact frame rate.

For 1440p at 60 FPS with ray tracing
Use Medium graphics, Balanced upscaling, and Medium ray tracing as the starting configuration. Remedy lists an RTX 4070 Ti or RX 9070 for this target, a substantially higher GPU tier than its non-RT 1440p/60 recommendation. If your graphics card is closer to the non-RT tier, try the non-ray-tracing profile first rather than assuming the same target will hold with RT enabled.
For 4K at 60 FPS
Without ray tracing, Remedy’s Enthusiast target pairs High graphics and Performance upscaling with an RTX 3080 or RX 6800 XT. The separate path-tracing target uses High graphics, Performance upscaling, and High ray tracing, and lists an RTX 5080. These are distinct profiles: a 4K target without ray tracing should not be mistaken for a 4K path-tracing target.

For an entry-level 1080p target
Remedy’s non-ray-tracing minimum profile targets 1080p/30 with Low graphics and Quality upscaling, with ray tracing off. Its separate ray-tracing minimum also targets 1080p/30, but uses Low ray tracing and lists an RTX 2060 SUPER, RX 6600, or Arc A580 with 8 GB VRAM. Use the non-RT row if ray tracing is not a priority.

First check whether ray tracing or path tracing is enabled. Remedy assigns those features to separate, more demanding hardware tiers, so switching to the corresponding non-RT profile is a sensible first adjustment if your GPU is below the listed RT target. Beyond that, adjust settings incrementally and check the result in the same area of the game; the official profiles do not prescribe an exact per-slider reduction order.

One independent data point can help set expectations, but it applies only to its test setup. PC Gamer hardware writer Andy Edser reported these averages and 1% lows using an RTX 5070 Ti, Ryzen 7 7700X, and 32 GB DDR5 at 1440p, with High ray tracing, DLSS Quality, and Frame Generation off:

These are PC Gamer’s results for that specific system and configuration, not expected performance for other PCs. In that test, High and Medium produced close results while Ultra ran slower. Upscaling, ray tracing, and Frame Generation
Remedy lists NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 upscaling and Frame Generation, AMD FSR 4.1 upscaling and Frame Generation, NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction, ray tracing, path tracing, HDR, ultrawide displays, and uncapped frame rate as supported PC features. Which options you can use depends on your hardware and the options presented in the game. Check the available settings on your system rather than assuming every GPU supports every feature.
Keep generated frames distinct from the game’s base rendering performance. Remedy says it did not use Frame Generation when testing the configurations in its requirements table, so those profile targets are not Frame Generation benchmark results. Generated frames also do not guarantee a stable experience or remove input latency; if responsiveness feels poor, compare gameplay with Frame Generation off as well as on.

Check installation and troubleshoot stuttering or crashes
Before changing graphics settings repeatedly, work through Remedy’s basic checks. The publisher recommends the following steps for PC problems:
- Confirm that your PC meets the game’s final system requirements and that the installation is on an SSD with enough free space for the game, updates, and temporary files.
- Install current graphics drivers, then restart the PC.
- Verify the game’s files in Steam or Epic Games Store, depending on where you installed it.
- For diagnosis, close background utilities and temporarily disable overlays to check for software conflicts.
- If the PC is unstable, return CPU, GPU, and memory overclocks or undervolts to default settings while troubleshooting.
- Only if the normal clean-install process for your graphics driver has not helped, consider Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Remedy describes this as an advanced step and advises creating a Windows restore point before using it.
Remedy cautions against permanently turning off antivirus or firewall protection. Its support guidance is available at Remedy’s CONTROL Resonant PC troubleshooting page. An SSD is an installation requirement; the cited requirements do not establish that upgrading to an SSD increases FPS.
What to include when comparing FPS results
A frame-rate figure is useful only with its test conditions. When comparing your own results with a review or another player, note the GPU, CPU, resolution, upscaler and preset, ray-tracing tier, and whether Frame Generation was enabled. Driver versions, background applications, cooling, component configuration, and the rendered area can also affect performance. An unofficial settings guide updated September 27, 2026 suggests lowering ray-tracing or path-tracing load and reducing Frame Generation multipliers when performance or input feel is poor; treat that as secondary advice, not a Remedy-verified prescription.
