What Artifacts do
Lead Gameplay Designer Sergey Mohov describes Artifacts as “equippable items with passive modifiers” for fine-tuning a build. Their effects can relate to survivability, combat performance, exploration, or the resource economy. Some have conditions or trade-offs, so an Artifact is not necessarily a simple, always-on improvement.

When deciding whether one fits your build, check what its effect changes, whether it depends on a condition, and whether it carries a trade-off. Consider how those details suit the situation you are preparing for rather than assuming one setup is best for every encounter.

- Take discoveries to the Gap. Craft Untapped Artifacts there to turn them into usable Artifacts. The overview does not state the individual crafting costs.
- Equip the finished Artifacts. They act as passive modifiers in your build, subject to the slot limit for your playthrough.
How many Artifacts can you equip?
Remedy’s April 30, 2026 overview says the first playthrough allows up to three equipped Artifacts. In New Game Plus, a fourth equipment slot unlocks. Those figures describe how many you can equip at once—not how many Artifacts exist in the game.
