Unsupervised Science is a side quest in CONTROL Resonant that ends with you shutting down six underground FBC testing facilities beneath Manhattan and then clearing a final area called the Threshold. Three facilities use a Soda Dispenser object-transformation puzzle and three use a timed Power Core balancing puzzle. The Unknown facility is the last shutdown, and the Threshold route closes the quest once you reach the corpse at its end.
The steps below reflect a walkthrough updated September 26, 2026. CONTROL Resonant launched on Steam on September 24, 2026, and Remedy Entertainment is listed as developer and publisher. If a later patch changes a location or puzzle, follow what you see in-game.

Start the quest
Go to any Testing Facility and play Dr. Grant’s voicemail from the tape player on the desk beside Dr. Roland Milbeck’s body. This adds Unsupervised Science to your Quest Log with the objective “Shut Down the Experiments.” The voicemail explains that the researchers’ dangerous experiments were left running when the Oldest House lockdown began.
Find all six facilities
The quest’s map markers sit at street level, but the laboratories themselves are underground. Search close to each marker for a sewer grate, drain, construction opening, or another concealed descent. Once you complete the Evacuation Zone facility, you receive the Testing Facility Coordinates document, which adds the remaining facilities to your map. Use it as your checklist.

Puzzle solutions
Soda Dispenser object puzzle
This puzzle appears at Downtown, Evacuation Zone, and West Incursion Zone. The terminal asks for objects to become Soda Dispensers. Carry each object across the room’s yellow transformation boundaries until it reaches that form, then place it in the box or marked yellow area.

- The whiteboard beside the terminal shows the transformation sequence.
- To save time, change direction across boundaries instead of carrying each object through every transformation in order.
Power Core balancing puzzle
This puzzle appears at Central, The Park, and Unknown. Starting the shutdown begins a 60-second timer. Watch the red indicator on inactive cores. When one flashes, move charge from a powered core into the core requesting power. Keep responding to indicators and maintaining balance until the timer expires and the gate opens. The Unknown facility uses five cores, while Central and The Park use four.

After you shut down the Unknown facility, enter the Threshold beside the accessory room. The route has traps, so follow these steps in order.

- At the floor marked with researcher names, ignore the left path marked Janson and the straight path marked Puchalski. Both are traps: the left path turns Dylan into a chair, and the straight path turns him into a telephone booth.
- Take the right path and break through the board.
- Follow the branch to the Power Core and collect its charge.
- Return to the fork and take the indicated left branch.
- Put the charge into the inactive Power Core to open the sealed room.
- Collect the crafting materials inside.
- Return to the fork, continue straight, and interact with the corpse at the end of the path.
Rewards and completion check
Across the six facilities you collect Power Upgrades, the Emergency Hood, Firebreaker Goggles, the Testing Facility Coordinates, and several researchers’ notes. The quest updates to “Go into the Threshold” once all six facilities are shut down.
Finishing the Threshold route gives you Dr. Grant’s Final Report, the Untapped Scrunchie Artifact Recipe, and the Threshold Researcher achievement or trophy. The quest closes when you interact with the corpse at the end of the route.
