Colorlib’s free Contact Form v7 is an HTML/CSS design template for a website contact page—not a working email or message-delivery system. To receive messages, connect its form to a server-side handler, a CMS form handler, or a form service, then validate submissions on the server.
What is the free Contact Form v7 template?

Does Contact Form v7 work without a backend?
No. The template can display form fields, but a submission needs a destination and processing logic. Colorlib explains that its form templates do not send data on their own. Connect the form to one of the following:

- A server-side script: Receive the POST request, validate the submitted values, and send or store the message.
- A CMS form handler: Use a handler supported by your content-management system to process the submission.
- A form service: Configure a service to receive submissions and provide whatever delivery or storage features your site requires.
Colorlib’s 2026 guide to form templates recommends submitting with POST and validating the data again on the server. Client-side checks can improve the form experience, but they do not replace server-side validation.
How do you make Contact Form v7 send email?
- Choose a handler. Decide whether your site will use a server script, a CMS handler, or a form service. The template does not include a built-in delivery mechanism.
- Connect the form to it. Configure the form’s submission target and method to match the handler. Colorlib’s guide specifies POST for submissions.
- Validate on the server. Check submitted values after they reach the handler; do not rely solely on browser-side validation.
- Configure message delivery. Set the handler to send the submission to the intended inbox or process it in the way your site requires.
- Test the full path. Submit a test message and confirm the handler receives it and delivery works. The template listing does not establish that a particular backend, inbox setup, or delivery configuration is included.
Can you use Contact Form v7 commercially?
The Contact Form v7 product page lists a CC BY 3.0 license. Colorlib’s 2026 guide says its templates may be used personally and commercially if the credit link is retained. Check the downloaded package and its applicable terms before deployment, including any attribution requirement for the specific copy you use.

What to check before adding the template to a site
- Confirm the downloaded files match the design and fields you intend to publish.
- Choose and configure a submission handler; the HTML/CSS template alone will not send messages.
- Review server-side validation and how the handler delivers or stores submissions.
- Check the package’s license and any credit-link requirement.
- Test the implemented form in your own site and environment. The available product information does not establish v7-specific accessibility conformance, supported browser versions, or measured performance.
If you are comparing it with another contact form template, assess the design, required fields, validation and interaction behavior, mobile layout, integration work, and license terms. Colorlib lists other variants on its contact form templates page, but the available descriptions do not establish a directly comparable v7-specific winner.
