There is no clear overall winner between Contabo and GoDaddy because their strongest fits differ: Contabo’s published comparison centers on VPS infrastructure, while GoDaddy also sells shared and managed WordPress hosting. Choose by the kind of hosting you need, how much server administration you can handle, and the full cost through renewal—not by comparing unrelated plans or advertised prices alone.
Start with the kind of hosting you need
A shared plan, managed WordPress plan, and VPS are different services. GoDaddy’s agreement describes shared hosting as resources shared among customers. Its Managed Hosting for WordPress includes basic administrative tasks such as WordPress installation, daily backups, core updates, and server-level caching. A VPS is a virtual server instance that gives the customer configuration control. Contabo’s VPS documentation describes KVM-based virtual servers with shared vCPU cores and fixed RAM.

That distinction matters more than the brand name. A beginner who wants WordPress set up and maintained is choosing a different service from an administrator who wants to configure a server. GoDaddy’s 2025 annual report says WordPress is the most-used CMS on its shared hosting platform; that is company disclosure, not an independent assessment of service quality.
How the options compare
| What you need | Likely fit | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| A WordPress site with less server administration | GoDaddy Managed WordPress is the more directly aligned option in this comparison. | Check the chosen plan’s storage limits, renewal price, backup cadence, support scope, and which features apply in your region. |
| A VPS with substantial listed resources at a low long-term advertised rate, and the skills to administer it | Contabo is worth considering. | Confirm CPU and storage tier, term, tax basis, setup fee, location, network-use conditions, and your responsibility for server security and maintenance. |
| A VPS with Windows, cPanel or Plesk choices, snapshots, or a provider-stated uptime commitment | Compare the exact GoDaddy VPS tier with a matching Contabo configuration. | Compare full-term cost, included options, and applicable service terms; don’t treat a provider’s uptime statement as an independent result. |
| Measured performance or high availability for a business-critical application | Neither provider is established as the winner by the available comparative evidence. | Seek tests that match your workload, region, plan, and measurement period. Examine the SLA, restore process, support escalation, and redundancy design. |
Contabo: VPS resources and long-term pricing
Contabo’s U.S. pricing page lists Cloud VPS 4 at $4.40 per month on a 24-month term, including VAT. The listed configuration has 4 vCPU cores, 8 GB RAM, 100 GB SSD, and a 200 Mbit/s port. This is a provider-published offer, not a general price for every term or market; confirm the selected product and checkout details because offers and product specifications can change.
#1 Best Overall
The price is only one part of the decision. Contabo’s VPS documentation describes shared vCPU cores, so the advertised allocation should not be read as dedicated physical processor cores. The pricing page also says unusually high or disruptive use may be throttled at the provider’s discretion; traffic should not be treated as unconditionally unlimited.
Contabo advises choosing a data center near the people who will use your site. Also account for the work of configuring and securing a VPS, maintaining the operating system and applications, and arranging backups and recovery.

GoDaddy: managed choices and renewal costs
GoDaddy’s U.S. hosting page shows both cPanel shared plans and Managed WordPress. The page lists WordPress features including preinstallation, automatic core updates, weekly backups, and migration features. GoDaddy’s hosting agreement describes a broader set of administrative tasks for Managed Hosting for WordPress, including daily backups and server-level caching. Because these descriptions differ in cadence and scope, check the specific plan and applicable terms rather than assuming every feature is identical across offers.

The retrieved checkout example lists Economy at $5.99 per month on a three-year term, with $215.64 due today and a $551.63 renewal in January 2029. It also shows WordPress Basic at $5.99 per month and a $539.64 renewal. These are page-specific checkout examples, not universal prices; compare the amount due for the whole term with the renewal and any separately renewing add-ons, such as SSL.

GoDaddy’s VPS page advertises Linux and Windows configurations, snapshots, and cPanel or Plesk options on listed plans. GoDaddy states a 99.9% uptime guarantee for VPS; this is a provider claim, not independently measured uptime. Read the applicable terms to understand coverage and remedies.
What performance and reliability evidence can establish
The surfaced VPSBenchmarks comparison says it tested one VPS plan from each provider. That is too narrow to determine how either provider performs across all plans, locations, or workloads. No broad, independently comparable test establishes a universal reliability or performance winner here.

For a meaningful evaluation, match the plan type, region, workload, and test period to your own use. For a business-critical service, also review the provider’s applicable service terms, backup and restore process, support escalation route, and the redundancy your application itself requires.
How to make the final choice
- Choose the service category. Decide whether you need shared hosting, managed WordPress, or a VPS before comparing prices.
- Set the administration boundary. If you want the host to handle routine WordPress tasks, assess GoDaddy’s managed plan and its plan-specific scope. If you choose a VPS, make sure you can manage or have help managing the server.
- Match the technical requirements. Compare vCPU, RAM, storage type and capacity, operating system, control panel, location, and network conditions on equivalent configurations.
- Calculate the full commitment. Check the billing term, total due now, renewal amount and date, tax treatment, setup charges, and add-ons that renew separately.
- Check operational safeguards. Confirm backup frequency and restore options, security responsibilities, support scope, and any service-level terms relevant to your workload.
