No. AM Best’s latest located rating action, dated July 24, 2026, affirms Construction Guarantee Cooperative’s (CG) Financial Strength Rating at A (Excellent), not A+. The separate Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating is a+ (Excellent); both outlooks are stable. The distinction between those two rating categories is the key to understanding the headline.
What AM Best affirmed in July 2026
AM Best affirmed CG’s Financial Strength Rating (FSR) at A (Excellent) and its Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (ICR) at a+ (Excellent), with stable outlooks for both. In this action, A+ is not the insurer financial-strength grade: the lowercase a+ belongs to the separate issuer credit rating.

AM Best described its rationale this way: “The ratings reflect CG’s balance sheet strength, which AM Best assesses as strongest, as well as its adequate operating performance, favourable business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.”

It cited CG’s large capital base, extremely low underwriting leverage, favourable liquidity, debt-free position and conservative investment strategy. These are AM Best’s assessments and rationale, not a separate verification of the company’s financial statements.

What a stable outlook means
A stable outlook is AM Best’s assessment accompanying the rating action; it is not a promise that the rating or CG’s financial condition cannot change. It should be read alongside the grade, rating category, agency and date—not as a guarantee of future performance.
Why other pages show different grades
CG’s credit-ratings page lists ratings from three agencies, but the entries have different dates and should not be treated as equivalent grades on one shared scale. Its AM Best entry is dated July 25, 2025, before the July 2026 action, so the newer AM Best announcement is the relevant source for that agency’s current action.

Each agency uses its own rating scale and may rate a different category. A grade-only comparison—such as treating Fitch’s A+ as interchangeable with AM Best’s A or a+—can therefore mislead. Check the agency, category, grade, outlook and date together.

AM Best’s October 19, 2023 announcement reported an FSR of A+ (Superior) and a Long-Term ICR of aa- (Superior), both stable. The July 2026 announcement reports A (Excellent) for the FSR and a+ (Excellent) for the ICR. The available notices do not provide a complete chronology between those dates or explain every change, so the two snapshots alone do not establish when or why the grades changed.

The 2023 notice also cited a capital base of KRW 6.8 trillion (USD 5.4 billion) as of year-end 2022. That is a historical figure, not a current 2026 capital amount.
