How to Find Pokémon Missing After a FireRed or LeafGreen Transfer to Pokémon HOME

If Pokémon seem to be missing after a FireRed or LeafGreen transfer, first identify which game you used: the original Game Boy Advance cartridge or the Nintendo Switch release. The Switch releases were announced to link with Pokémon HOME in October 2026, but the announcement does not establish that the feature is live on October 7 or provide a complete transfer guide. Nintendo’s Poké Transporter compatibility list does not name the original GBA cartridges as inputs, so do not assume they transfer directly to HOME. Then check every source-game and HOME box, review HOME’s Notebook, and confirm that you are viewing the right account.

First, identify the game and transfer route

“FireRed or LeafGreen” can mean two different releases, and the route determines what troubleshooting applies.

  • Original Game Boy Advance cartridge: Nintendo’s list of games compatible with Poké Transporter names selected Nintendo DS and Virtual Console games, but not the original GBA FireRed or LeafGreen cartridges. The list is at Nintendo’s Pokémon Bank and Poké Transporter compatibility guide. The available information does not establish a direct transfer path from an original cartridge to HOME.
  • Nintendo Switch release: The Pokémon Company announced that the Switch releases would link with Pokémon HOME “this October.” The announcement does not give a full transfer procedure or, as of October 7, 2026, establish the exact launch day or whether the connection is already live. See The Pokémon Company’s announcement for the Switch releases.
  • Pokémon Bank was involved: Follow the account and transfer checks below. Bank-to-HOME has its own requirements and is one-way.

Before troubleshooting, note which release you played, which app or device initiated the transfer, and whether you saw a transfer-complete message. If you used the new Switch connection, use only the currently available in-game or HOME instructions; the announcement alone is not enough to infer menu steps.

Check the source game and every Pokémon HOME box

A Pokémon may still be in the source game, may have arrived in a different HOME box than expected, or may have been moved out again. Nintendo’s missing-Pokémon checklist recommends checking both locations.

#1 Best Overall
Pokemon FireRed Version
  • Join up to 39 other wireless Trainers in the Union Room for a free-for-all, or connect with just two or three in the Direct Corner
  • Prove yourself in the region's Pokémon League while single-handedly bringing down Team Rocket - then open up all-new storylines with unexpected twists
  • Bring the Pokemon you capture in Fire Red to the worlds of Leaf Green, Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, or Pokemon Colosseum for more challenge
  1. Open the source game and look through all available boxes. Confirm whether the Pokémon is still there; do not assume that every Pokémon you intended to move was included.
  2. Open Pokémon HOME and inspect each box, not only the box you expected to use.

Use HOME’s Notebook to check transfer history

The Notebook records activity in Pokémon HOME. Check it for an entry showing that the Pokémon was transferred into HOME or later moved out. Nintendo advises: “Check your Notebook in Pokémon HOME to view your record log, and verify whether the Pokémon was transferred into and/or out of Pokémon HOME.” The log can help distinguish a transfer that did not complete from a Pokémon that arrived and was subsequently moved, but Nintendo does not describe it as a recovery tool.

Confirm the Nintendo Account and console user

If you use both the mobile and console versions of HOME, check that each is linked to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo says the two versions do not share Pokémon boxes when the mobile app is linked to a different account or to no account.

Also consider whether another person using the same Switch could have moved Pokémon from compatible save data into their own HOME boxes. Nintendo includes this possibility in its missing-Pokémon guidance. If the account and boxes appear correct but the Pokémon is still unaccounted for, contact Pokémon Support through the support options in Nintendo’s missing-Pokémon article.

If the transfer went through Pokémon Bank

For the Bank-to-HOME route, verify the account connection before trying again. Pokémon Support’s guide to connecting Pokémon HOME to different games, updated January 30, 2026, says the Nintendo Network ID used with Bank must be linked to the Nintendo Account used with HOME. HOME Premium is required for Bank-to-HOME transfers.

  • Without a 3DS: The account-linked option moves all Pokémon in Bank at once. Pokémon Support warns, “Please be aware that all Pokémon in Pokémon Bank will be moved at once in this case.”
  • With Bank and a 3DS: HOME displays a Moving Key to enter in Bank. The key expires after three minutes, so enter it before that period ends.

A Bank-to-HOME transfer cannot be rolled back: Nintendo says Pokémon moved from Bank to HOME cannot be transferred back to Bank or used with Nintendo 3DS titles. See Nintendo’s Pokémon HOME transfer instructions.

Know the Pokémon Bank deadline

Nintendo’s Pokémon Bank end-of-service notice says the service will end February 25, 2027, at 7:00 p.m. PST. Bank-to-HOME transfers will no longer be possible once service ends, and Nintendo says Bank is not currently available for download. This deadline applies to the Bank route, not to the announced HOME link for the Nintendo Switch releases.
