To connect a robot vacuum to your smartphone, install the app specified for its exact model, tap Add Device or the equivalent, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. The vacuum may be discovered automatically, require a button press, use Bluetooth, or ask your phone to join a temporary Wi-Fi network broadcast by the robot. Then select a home network the vacuum supports and enter its password.
Pairing steps and Wi-Fi requirements differ by model, so use the manufacturer’s instructions rather than a generic reset-button sequence. See the iRobot setup guidance, ECOVACS support, or Roborock Support Center for the relevant product instructions.

Before you start
- Find the vacuum’s brand and exact model, then identify the app named on the robot, packaging, or manufacturer support page.
- Dock or charge the robot and keep your phone nearby while pairing.
- Check the model’s supported Wi-Fi band. Some models support only 2.4 GHz; Roborock says its devices do not support 5 GHz. Do not assume all robot vacuums have the same requirement.
- Have the home Wi-Fi name and password ready. If the app requests Bluetooth, local-network, or location access, enable the requested permission for setup.
How to pair the vacuum with your phone
- Install and open the manufacturer’s app. Sign in or complete any account step the app requires.
- Choose Add Device, Add Robot, or the equivalent option, then select the exact model if prompted.
- Follow the on-screen pairing instructions. The app may find the robot, ask you to press a button, or use Bluetooth. Some models require the phone to connect temporarily to the robot’s own Wi-Fi network or enter an alternate configuration mode.
- When asked, select the home Wi-Fi network supported by the vacuum and enter its password. If the model requires 2.4 GHz, select that network or band. With combined-band or mesh Wi-Fi, follow the manufacturer’s setup guidance rather than changing router settings at random.
- Keep the app open and wait for its connection confirmation. A successful connection may also be indicated on the robot; Roborock describes its Wi-Fi indicator changing from flashing to solid.
For examples of manufacturer-specific setup, consult iRobot’s Wi-Fi robot setup instructions, ECOVACS’s internet connection guide, and the Roborock Support Center. The exact app labels and button prompts depend on the model.

Why won’t the robot vacuum connect to Wi-Fi?
The app cannot find the robot
Check that the robot is powered on and docked or charged, then restart the add-device flow and follow the model’s pairing prompt. Some ECOVACS setup cases offer Bluetooth or AP configuration. Use the app’s instructions for the exact model; button combinations are not universal.

The phone leaves the robot’s temporary Wi-Fi network
If the app asks you to join a temporary network created by the robot, remain connected during the configuration handoff. ECOVACS advises users not to switch networks during this step. If the phone warns that the temporary network has no internet connection, follow the app’s prompt instead of switching back to the home network prematurely.
The home network is incompatible
Check the vacuum’s supported Wi-Fi bands and any network-security requirements in its manual or official support page. Roborock says its devices do not support 5 GHz and advises changing WEP to WPA or WPA2 if applicable. ECOVACS documents 2.4 GHz setup and other network limitations for some cases. These requirements are model-specific; confirm them before changing your router configuration.

Does a robot vacuum need 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
Some do, but the answer depends on the exact model. Roborock states that its devices do not support 5 GHz, while iRobot and ECOVACS guidance also describes 2.4 GHz-only cases. Check the vacuum’s own specifications or setup instructions; a general rule for one brand or product line may not apply to every model.
